Title: My HW97K and your opinion needed
Post by: s10gto on October 15, 2011, 08:08:27 PM
Would like to share my HW97K I bought off the AA classifieds. She is a beauty. Seller said only about 1000 rounds. Well if he told me it was unfired I would have believed every word. It is perfect condition.

Now for your opinion. The HW came with a 3-9x50 LR Leapers AO scope. I was thinking of putting my Hawke eclipse 4-16x50 side focus AO scope on it off my RWS52 and put the leapers on the 52.

What would you do?

Pic's are from seller I will post some of my own when all set up.

Thanks for looking and all opinions welcome

Very cool gun. If the Hawke is doing well on the 52, I'd leave it.

Both good points.  :D My thinking was the 52 is my long distance shooter. Although the Leapers is less power it comes with a sun shade so that's a plus. I can set the AO and leave it. Target shooting at 20 to 40 yard ranges I was thinking the side focus would be nice instead of having to reach forward if shooting multiple targets.

Maybe my wife is right and I am just NUTS!  ;D

I agree with Richard and from my experience in .22cal thats plenty of scope on that gun! :P

Thanks Going to try her out later today. Someday may change scope to a Leupold 3-9x33. I love the one on my TX. Not mil-dot but not a big deal for the ranges I use it. I like the smaller size and the finish matches perfect. ;D

I've got the same hawke scope on my pro sport and find the the increased magnification versus 3-9x to be very useful.  The hw97 can easily go out to 50+ yards and at that range, I find I need the 4-16x hawke often.  I tried a 3-9x leapers on the pro sport and found it lacking IMHO.

It`s just my opinion but ,if I could afford a high quality Leupold 3-9x33 for my 97` I would be very happy with it.I feel that these big side/underlevers are heavy enough without tagging a big monster scope on to them as well.Heavier scopes can make sense on lighter break/barrel springers, where they can help soak up recoil.

Id leave both scopes alone for now then later if you need more glass on the 97, leapers 4-16x40 ao is a nice scope for the money. I got 2 that i use for long range shooting. If your under 50 yds 3-9 should work great.

Well here's the pic's as promised. I went back and forth on the scopes so I tried both on the 52 as I have shot this gun alot. I ended up liking the leapers on it with the sun shade. Its a little lighter and the one piece mount is very strong. Loading was also no problem. I tend not to turn the power over 10 so 9 is OK. I also like how the leapers has 6 mildots over the 3 the Hawke has.

The HW97K shoots GREAT! Smooth cocking & the trigger is like glass.  ;D
Tried to get some group pic's ,but too windy.

Thanks for all the help! Enjoy the pic's

Dustin
