I thought that it might be interesting to post some of the patent drawings of vintage airguns before the introduction of CNC machinery.

I saved the Benjamin from 1898 and printing it to frame and hang in the "gun room"
Very Cool!

Yes that is some fine art :)

I took drafting in high school. I was pretty good at it but never stuck with it. So when I look at these drawings it's with more than just a little admiration.
Those designs were brought from the drafting table to actual production with T-squares, triangles, French-curves, compasses and slide rules.

Me as well. :D
I took all the drafting and mechanical drawing classes, as well as shop classes my school offered. Art too.

Ditto.
Dad pulled a stint as a Draftsman after the Korean War at the local McCray Plant.
If you go to an old Grocery store and lean over the open top refrigerator / Freezer. look at the label and see if it is a McCray... My Dad drafted that.
I still have his T-Square, 45-90 and 30-60-90.. as well and a variety of French curves.

Is the that amazing refrigerator still working in the McCray house?

The genius of Hugo Schmeisser. Repeating mechanism, so rare to find today.

These are really nice. I have been looking for a set of drawings for a Webley MkI rifle, as I have been thinking of making something similar. Right now I am reverse engineering from a pair of pistols.

These are interesting rifles, not really successful during its time so few were made. What strikes you is how small it is compared to most rifles. My example with the contemporary Target pistol.

Very nice. If I get serious about this project I may end up contacting you for some info at various points, if you don't mind.

That’s fine, found this is a book:

Ah, that is very helpful. Is it from the Webley rifle book? I might need to break down and pick that up.

That looks like a round pellet magazine. Correct?
If so, do you think he got the idea from the Lewis machine gun?

Yes round magazine for standard pellets. You would think he got the idea from round mags on firearms like the Lewis? He designed machine guns. But the machining is something that would never be attempted today! These are a crazy rare find today, made in the 1930’s. I have seen a couple in 5 years collecting.

Maybe the Lewis gun was the genesis of thought for the evolution to the Gamo Swarm.

Yep, It has been a while since I was in the "McCray Mansion", but it was still there last time.
Thank for the link. ;)

Thanks everyone for sharing these patent drawings. I really enjoy them and only wish there were more available. Maybe if there were enough the power’s that be would make this a sticky. After all, it represents the foundation for our interests.
