This young coon was blasted with 26 grain Predator Polymag (using 25 Marauder, 44 fpe). The polymag smacked the top of its head. The coon did the funky chicken dance for probably less than a minute and that was it. I wasn't expecting a coon because I haven't seen one for a while. I think this young raccoon was the sibling of the other coon (shot in the jaw). The mother coon was wise enough not to come back.

One thing I have noticed is that raccoons often present the tops of their heads as targets when they put their nose to the ground. I haven't had many opportunities for top of the head shots on possums. I think its because the c-rats have such long snouts that it is hard for them to do so.

Good shooting! That's my choice of shot placement with a raccoon. It makes for a quick kill. The acrobatics are just the nervous system.
