Title: Hello from Texas
Post by: HCAirgunner on October 13, 2011, 05:00:56 PM
Hello everyone, my name is Chris. I am from the Austin area.

I am a librarian, specializing in old and rare books (and the preservation thereof.)

I used to shoot airguns as a kid, and continued into my teens. Then, for a long time, I quit.

In my mid-twenties, I sold my airguns. [A Daisy Model 840 .177 "rifle," a Crosman C02 Colt Python replica .177 pistol, a Marksman Colt 45 replica pistol (BB/Pellet/Dart, .177) and a Daisy softair pistol (S&W replica.)]

Now, at the age of 42, I am back into the hobby. My current "arsenal" is only three guns strong so far:

Two RWS Diana P5 Magnum .177 pistols (One for me, and one to give to my son when he's old enough)
A refurbished Crosman Titan GP .22 rifle

I also collect antique typewriters, but that's another story, ha ha.  ;)

I haven't shot the Titan yet (just got it in the mail yesterday) but I *LOVE* the Diana pistol.

I eventually plan to get a Beeman P1, a Beeman HW70A, and a Weihrauch HW90, but I am on a budget, so I gotta save my pennies.

Welcome Chris. Glad you found us and joined up. A lot of us have lost and refound our interest in airguns. I love to shoot but powder burners take a special place to shoot as well as being VERY expensive these days. I'll just save my ammo for when I NEED it. LOL
Typewriters,eh? I may have to send you some pictures for advise on one I have. Very old, big and heavy. Might use it to trade for another airgun or tool to work on airguns.
Anyway, welcome. Post often and post plenty of pictures.
Happy Shooting!!!!
Dave

Welcome Chris, from a fellow Texan! Happy to have you here. We have at least one other poster from the Austin area, and probably others I'm not aware of.

Well, the Picard pic is just until I can get a decent-looking one of myself, ha ha.

I target shoot, but we do get the occasional skunk, so if I see another one, I'm ready! :)

As for typewriters, search for "vintage typewriters" on Etsy.com, and you will see what models go for what price... that's all I do, I am not an expert or anything. :)

When you're in my area, stop by. We don't have to go anywhere to shoot- the bench and targets are all here, and there are occasionally starlings and sparrows making pests of themselves. :D

Another quick note on the typewriters: I can tell you that the most valuable typewriters fall into 2 main categories: really old (turn of the century, up to about 1930) Underwoods and Remingtons, which have (in most cases) the really nice glass keys, and the second group includes the flashier Royals and Smith Coronas from the 40's and 50's that come in a variety of cool colors, like candy apple red, and sky blue.
