Title: RWS Diana 40
Post by: Smackey54 on October 12, 2011, 09:29:59 PM
Hey all....anyone here have now,  or have ever owned a RWS Diana 40? I believe it was made for a short period of time and is basically the same power plant as the Diana 34. Please correct me if I am wrong. I have the chance to pick up a 40 and was wondering what they sold for new.
Any information would be helpful.
Thanks.....!

As far as I know the 40 was a scope only 34.

I think they sold for about the same price as the 34 or just a bit more not much tho! :P

I remember when my local Galyan's (now Dicks) had them in stock.  They were something like $140.  A bit more than the 34, as mentioned.  Nice, older guns with the T01 trigger (a good one).  The muzzle break is something close on to a pound, though, and you see a lot with that taken off.  I think the current big brake that Diana sells on some guns like the compact is the same one.  Replacement brakes, either new or used, will set you back a bit if it is missing.  I would put a plastic type break on it.  These are nice guns but, for some reason, I am seeing them go for more than (IMHO) they are worth.  $200 and up for a decent example - $50 or more over a 34.  Except for the stock, you are buying the same gun.

Well, the heavy brake would be good for dampening barrel vibration. Too bad it makes it less than handy for carrying in the woods all day.

Thanks to all who responded! I saw one of these on Craigslist with scope for $130, so it is probably not the bargain I thought it may have been. Thank you all for the education!

Actually, that was a decent price if in very good condition.

You can easily spend more than that for a Chinese air rifle that isn't nearly as nice.
I'm not bashing the Chinese airguns. Just stating a fact. I own/have owned quite a few Chicom shooters. I like them, but the German air guns are much more refined.
