I have been working on getting a heavier zinc or tin pellet for my air guns.
Lately I have made double pellets-just stacking them and shooting-in which case one hits at POA-the other hits 5-7mm laterally at 10 meters
This was with cheap daisy 5.2 grain flat nosed-combined with Crosman pointed 4.2 grain pellets(claimed wt 5.2 actual 4.2 grains-Daisy 5.2 claimed actual wt 5.2 grains)
Always 2 holes at 10 meters
Except this time using the Diana 350 with H N FIELD TARGET TROPHY GREEN- Claim wt 5.7 actual wt 5.7
At 10 meters-one hole-and the hole is dead on point of aim-I aimed high assuming it would shoot low-forgetting it was shooting high with the new fiber optic GLOBE SIGHT

Anyway I initially assumed the 2nd pellet missed-reshot 5 times-some just 10 feet-same result-one hole
These are not "attached" like I did shooting in B3 Chinese or NP or 1377=all of which made two holes-al distances
This 350 is a great rifle- 2 stacked pellets-one hole -standing open sights no rest-hit exactly at point of aim at 10 METERS
Guessing the one hole has something to do with pellets-good pellets-and the rifle-good rifle-i will chronograph the double pellets some time soon
Yes the recoil is milder and the report-through my plugs-much quieter-no sharp noise
PS 1st few times I immediately checked barrel(after checking target for inapparent hole)-thought maybe it was a pool shot-blasted one down barrel-other staying in place-nope
I will reshoot soon into a fresh target-recover pellets-check condition-perhaps they won't be as deformed as single pellets

I recommend much heavier pellets for that rifle—10-13 gr. Even in a 13-15 FPE you will fry the seal in short order with 5 grain pellets. And if you hunt, those light pellets are losing velocity rapidly downrange. I’m guessing here but I would think at 30 yards,fired from a 350, a 10.3 grain pellet will deliver 25% more energy than a 5 grain pellet...maybe more.

I was a bit unclear-I always am.
I have gotten lots of advice to avoid light pellets with my air rifles-
Now the Diana 460 .22 has between 2500 and 4500 8.6 grain pellets shot through it,
Few days ago I pulled the piston out-took a look at the seal and the compression chamber-they looked fine
But the Diana 350-recent addition-had it for maybe 2 weeks and 300-400 shots- 350 with 5.2 grain Daisy flat nosed pellets
The .177 350's 5.2 grain pellets are relatively and absolutely A LOT lighter than the 8.6 grain .22's- a LOT lighter
So the .22 460 being ok after 1000's of 8.6 grain pellets-really doesn't mean much in respect to the .177 350 with much lighter pellets
Power plant wise-they are very similar
The concern is the light pellet won't slow down the piston/spring very much-too little mass
But perhaps the smaller diameter does slow how quickly the spring/piston can ram the air down the much smaller barrel(about 2/3rd the cross section)-
Not sure how much barrel diameter slows piston speed. I know it supposed to take-on average- 8/1000 sec before pressure is high enough to break the pellet loose-and then
just another 2/1000 sec fully clear the barrel-so not sure how much pellet mass slows or speeds up piston impact speed
In any case the very light-but lead free-pellets are a concern in respect to damaging the spring and ramming the seal/piston into the compression chamber
So I am tinkering with hybrid pellets-initially planning to either solder them together(difficult) or literally glue-epoxy-them together(easy worked ok out of cheap B3 chinese air rifle
$20 rifle- or the 1377 1322 but not so sure I want to potentially goo up the barrel of the Diana's or the TX200 or the HW77K
But if these H N pellets in the 1400 fps Diana 350 will hit dead center-both of them-not attached in any way-
Well problem solved-11.4 grains of .177 -hit dead center-both of them just stacked in the breech.

Velocities
5.7+5.7=11.4 grains= 891 888 913 call it 900 fps- 20.6 FPE about what you would expect
I shot-measured the 1377 to check on the chronograph-see if it was ballpark "working right" with the same 5.7 grain pellet-about 6 pumps- 492FPS 3 FPE- about what would be expected
About 1/2 the shots at 5 and 10 meters were single hole- others were slightly strung vertically-not sure why it sometimes single holes-other time two holes
Guessing it has something to do with how or how much I roll the front pellet to make it easier-but not too easy-to push down the barrel
Oh the 5.7 H N get the same velocity-sometimes a tiny bit more-as the 5.2 grain Daisy flat nosed pellet

Sorry, I haven't done the deep thread dive yet to find my answer so I'm being lazy and asking here...
What are your reasons for not using the appropriate weight lead pellets for the Diana 350 air rifle?
I'm just curious... :-)

No problem.
I am old-70 pushing 71-and have had LOTS of lead exposure-probably majority from leaded gasoline-tetraethyl lead boosted octane in gasoline-allowing
waaaay more compression(and power) and boost(but only airplane and racing engines were boosted 1950's 1960's
I also had LOTS of exposure from shooting(indoor ranges-primers are still lead "STY-PH-NATE" I think.
So I decided to play catch up in my old age avoid lead-
I only shoot indoors-in my hallway/bedrooms- if I could shoot outdoors I would not be concerned-but neighbors would sic SWAT on me
So I avoid lead exposure-
when this came up recently it provoked a lively discussion-
Not lead pellets are much more expensive- 7-10 cents each-not as accurate-and generally very light-zinc tin etc-maybe 70% the density of lead-and aluminum-25%
Iron is maybe 75% but is too hard for rifled barrels-copper would be good-but it is very expensive-maybe 3x lead
So I make do with Daisy .177 pellets (5.2 GRAINS) and Crosman SSP .22 (8.6 GRAINS) and H N which are a bit more expensive
Double shooting the .177 is my attempt to get a weight of projectile that will be less likely to break the spring-and perhaps damage the seal and compression chamber

I am surprised that doubled pellets are "pretty accurate"-yes they do make report and recoil milder-not that I care much about those characteristics-I have used JUST LIGHT PELLETS
for 6 years-so the recoil and report-are normal to me

PS-I have crummy eyes-so my accuracy standards- are low-this picture-10 meters standing shooting freehand-no rest-stock open sights-is GREAT SHOOTING for me-
I think it is maybe 8-9mm group-very oridinary shooting for most folks-but rare for me-cataracts refractive problems-no depth perception-significant wobble-so slight loss of accuracy
from using NOT LEAD- would not be measurable in my normal shooting
