Title: Limb chicken took a round
Post by: Smaug2 on December 22, 2021, 03:02:50 PM
I came home for lunch today just to make sure everything was under control in the backyard.

As I was microwaving my lunch, I saw this black mutation gray squirrel come out and start feeding under the tree. I have been watching him for a few weeks and spooked him at 18 yards a couple of times getting the door open. He was not as brave as the typical suburban squirrel; I think he came from the woods behind my house. This was 25 yards and he felt safe with that. That turned out to be a poor decision.

I got out the S510 and ever so slowly and gently opened up the back door. I braced on the door stile, lined up, and sent the lead; chk—TUK!

You can see the entry wound in the photos below, the exit was out the ear on the other side. I heard the pellet ricochet off of a rock after it passed through.

I’ve got three in the freezer already; I think I have enough now to make a batch of chili.  8)

You can see below how long that gun is, once properly moderated. I can’t wait to try the incoming Urban, which is about 8” shorter.

Great shot Jeremy.  I have not seen a black squirrel in the wild.  There are some white ones that live close to me but not where I can hunt them.

I got a $56 Chinese hand pump on Amazon; I like it better than the Hill. (even when the Hill worked)  Except the gauge. The gauge is junk; off by 1,000 psi.

Great shot Jeremy.  I have not seen a black squirrel in the wild.  There are some white ones that live close to me but not where I can hunt them.

The black mutation ones tend to be more shy, I've found. It's as if they're bred through natural selection to be more careful, because their color doesn't camouflage them as well as the gray/brown they normally would have.
