Title: What's wrong with my tank ?
Post by: Nod on December 21, 2021, 12:17:48 PM
I have a Joe Brancato "Guppy" air tank. It's 4 years old and I just went to get it refilled to 4500psi and it wouldn't fill. It still had 3000 psi in it but when we hooked it up to the 4500 supply it wouldn't take in any air. I've filled it at this place before several times and had no problem. Is something stuck ?  The gauge shows 3000 psi but when I open the valve only a small stream of air comes out and the gauge goes to zero, close it and it goes back to 3000.  I would expect it to have a lot  of pressure coming out with the valve open but you can hold your hand there and hardly feel any air.  Any ideas as to what's wrong ?  Thanks

I agree you need to call Joe.  It probably is a problem with the valve.

I had the opposite problem a few months back with my Guppy - the valve would not seal all the way.  I could not hear the leak unless I put the QD right on my ear, but it was there as it was losing air just sitting there.

A replacement insert for valve cost me about $30, if I recall correctly.  Mine was easy to replace as it was easy to drain the air out, but your might be harder - you might have to loosen the burst disc, but again, I would call Joe and talk to them . . .
