Title: Anyone have experience shooting slugs in an AEA 22cal HP Carbine?
Post by: Raider03 on December 20, 2021, 10:20:56 PM
I have tried H&N 21grn pellets, they cycle and with the transfer port at 3/4 they are producing about 45FPE. Wondering if 27grn or 28grn NSA slugs would cycle in this semi-auto?

I have shot the NSA  20.2 grain .217" slugs and I also did a short test shooting the 24.8 grain .217" NSA slugs.  Both cycled and shoot great.  I fill mine to 3300-3400 psi max.  No distance shooting at paper yet though only indoor testing for function.
I do not have anything heavier in .22 slugs. I have found shooting heavier than the recommended 18.1 grain pellets the AEA HP SS Plus I have cycles and shoots.  anything lighter and there a few jams during testing.

Just received some JSB Monster RD they average 42FPE compared to the HN 21gr at 41FPE. The 45FPE I quoted is for the first couple shots. The JSB MRDs at 8.8mm in length fit the magazine and cycle without an issue from 3300psi to 2300psi (2 magazines).

Thank you for the info on the NSA slugs.

John I shoot the NOE 218-25-RF slugs out of my Challenger SL, I waited a long time for this mold to show back in stock(missed the first run) and when they did I jumped on it.  Mine average 24.4 grains in the cup point. They're awesome shooters out of the Challenger the way they drop from the mold, I mainly wanted this mold for my Liberty but with the Liberty I need to size them down to .215 however they're excellent shooters from it.  AVS makes very similar slugs also but not sure of the diameter options he has available.  He's the one that got me started on hunting down the NOE mold for my Liberty and at the time I never imagined how well they'd be shooting from my .22 Challenger SL.

FYI
I bought one of these
https://www.aeaairgun.net/product-page/cf-aluminum-bottle-adapter-for-aea-hp-models (https://www.aeaairgun.net/product-page/cf-aluminum-bottle-adapter-for-aea-hp-models)
and now have an FX 480cc carbon bottle mounted and get 3 magazines in the sweet spot where the fps extreme spread is 20 fps or less unregulated.  I can get a little more than 4 magazines but the first few are not the best and the last magazines POI changes after 4 shots.  Yes the gun is a little lighter too.
You do need an 8mm fill probe too if you have the aluminum air cylinder with the gauge and the fill port on the end.
I forgot to mention this is with a 10" barrel as I have a HP SS PLUS .22.  I have the port at one line from max.  You should be able to match the performance I'm sure.
