Title: Rainy Night Rat!
Post by: Rat Sniper (AKA: PaulT58) on December 20, 2021, 09:09:55 PM
Sorry, no video with this one, it just happened too fast!  This is the large rat I've been seeing on the trail cam, but usually in the wee hours when I'm snuggled into my nice warm bed!  Well, this evening he made a fatal mistake and showed up just before 7:00 pm, when I was still wide awake!  It's been raining and gloomy most of the day, so maybe his clock was off due to it being dark all dal long.  I just happened to check the the critter cam and spotted an eye glowing in the brush.  It wasn't long before he was out in the open snacking on some seed.

I quickly jumped from the Lazyboy and shot to my office where I grabbed the Huben K1 and mounted the IR Lamp on the side of the ATN 4K Pro.  He was moving fast from the brush to the feed station and back again. I had a split second to get in a shot while he was on the feed station and forgot to start the recording on the ATN 4K Pro.  I tried to record it from the critter cam prior taking a shot, but with the rain, the wifi signal was sketchy and I didn't catch the shot on video.

So, this time all I have is a picture of this monster after I nailed him with the Huben K1 shooting 25.39 JSB Monster Rat Destroyers!  This shot was from my office, so it was a 50 yard shot, through the fence, in the rain, after dark!  It wasn't this rats lucky day!

Thank you Randall!  It was nice to finally shoot this one, he's been taunting me for a while now!  One less Rattus Rattus is always a good thing!  I'll be checking the other trail cams later today, if one of them happen to catch the shot, I'll post it here.

Thanks Dave!  Here's a quick clip the Critter cam did catch.  He didn't give me a lot of time to frame the shot and take it!

Paul
Nice shot on that super rat............. 8) I hope that wasn't a Tour Guide......?

You are a way better pilot than I am, all I can do is ground loop my Propel Flex 2.0.

I even went so far as to ground tether it with a 6' long string to a chunk of 2x6, and I still crash it,
have to watch "Chance" as he'll eat it when he can catch it,
the first time flying it I crashed on the roof, had to retrieve it with a ladder.............. ::)

The second flight was a loss in the hay field, Chance found it.

I fly Super Cubs............ ;)

Tia,
Don

Thanks Don!  If it's a big rat like that one, especially that species, Tour Guide just means First to Die!  LOL!

After reviewing the Critter Cams, two of them actually caught the shot, and the very enthusiastic clean-up afterwards!  That Possum must have been pretty hungry, he actually attacked that dead rat!

Interestingly, the Critter Cams also caught a smaller rat that showed up shortly after the Possum disposed of it's relative!  Same nasty species, just a bit smaller.  So, the adventure continues!

Paul! Those possums are the reason the rats are so wary! Saw a rat on my video cam bolt when it saw a possum coming in for the PB! Steve-oh had a video of his cleanup possun crew that jumped about a 2 feet to grab the dead rat...i bet they hunt rats! Great videos! Hope you get more 🤗.

I'm watching the critter cam tonight!  I see his little eye blinking off in the brush to the left of the feed station.  I have the Huben in the Death Grip tripod ready to go, I just need him to show himself long enough to take a shot!

Great shoot on them rats paul, especially that JUMBO one, that cracked me up seeing how that possum scooped that rat up so fast and took off with it.  It's seldom you see them possums move that quick 8)

Wayne, they did look like they literally attacked both rats I shot!  They shouldn’t be hungry, they get fed pretty well!   ;D

Paul, I was surprised to see how fast the Possum snatch up the dead rats. I'm getting itchy to set up a rat trap in my backyard, but it might be too cold this time of the year in NE.

LOL!  Yea they act like they’re starving!  I think they are fed pretty well, they get a balanced diet of bird seed, rats and on special occasions peanut butter!
