So I’m thinking about a high end backpack gun in the near future. I want something no more than 24-28 inches. The shorter the better. I want to possibly throw it in a backpack.. Good Warranty and parts availability are important but so is being able to easily repair leaks myself. I’m not into tinkering but I’d like ease of velocity adjusting for different weight pellets . I’ve looked at the following am I missing anything? I’m really liking the Lelya for ease of repair but the FX Warranty is awesome from what I hear and they cover shipping both ways. Which one is easiest to repair leaks if all you had was 10 minutes ?
1.Fx Wildcat mk3 compact awesome warranty
2.Edgun Lelya 2.0 ease of repair built like a tank
3.Taipan Veteran I don’t know much about this
4.Leishy 2.0 I love these I love the ease of tuning I just worry about the magazine indexing system because I’ll be the guy that receives a dud.
-
I've got a Wildcat MKII .25 and a Taipan Mutant .22 standard. Both are very accurate, Taipan is heavy and built solid like the Edgun. Veteran compact may be the same length as the Lelya. Can't really go wrong on any of them unless certain features are more desirable and they are all about the same price.
-
If I was going to spend the money I'd go for the Leshiy, those Russians do know how to build some really fine guns.
-
Is there a compact version of the Uragan ?
How about the Katran with the folding stock ?
Ataman also makes a few models with folding stocks.
-
If the Taipan is on the list then so should this:
RTI Prophet Performance Compact

10 minutes to do a repair? How about 10 minutes to completely strip, clean, and reassemble?
Best backpacking gun, period, is the Leshiy Classic. I use mine that way on long hikes here in VA and in WV/Canaan Valley. I can do barrel swaps in about 2 minutes, and that with the Leshiy starting out still in my backpack on my back. I know the Leshiy 2.0 is nice, but nothing beats the simplicity of the Leshiy Classic. And that coming from the guy that also owns the Lelya 2.0... which is also a tough, powerful, and accurate PCP... but it is heavier and much more bulky in a backpack once you add any scope. The bullpup form of the Lelya is more finicky when it comes to shooting freehand or side-braced.
If you opt for the Leshiy 2, I sincerely doubt you'll get a dud. But I'd still opt for the Leshiy Classic- then you can invest more in a top-end lightweight scope, an extra barrel, the BAT, and ammo.

Hi thank you for the input i actually do have the Classic but it’s time for another one :) I love my Classic and I’m really leaning towards the L2 because of the repeating action and being so small folded. My Classic is the 250mm .25 I would probably go 350mm .22 for the L2. There are a ton of video tutorials out there for basic maintenance and Brian is literally 35 minutes away.

Well heck, I can't recommend the .25 350mm barrel enough!
Yeah, Leshiy 2 over the Lelya, I hate to say. the Lelya is amazing, but it's beefy with a scope and finding a good bag for it that also let my wife carry other stuff (bottle of tequila and some snacks) was a chore!
Also, with the shortage of barrels available from EdGunWest (Brian), don't pass up on Airgun Heaven. I ordered my .25 350mm barrel from there along with the Huma high-power regulator and manual guages last year when the barrels seemed to be vaporware. And come2022, I'm going to look into an unchoked .22 350 for slugs, since my Career and SPA M25 have me covered in larger bores. Though it would be fun hurling .35 pellets at HOSPs. 8) :o ;)

Seeing how you already have the ultimate backpack gun, I can see why the L2 would be appealing and probably unbeatable in the backpack category. I’ve had a Leshiy since they first came out but strangely have zero interest in the L2. Not because I think it’s a bad gun but mainly due to the fact that it’s just a more complex gun. I don’t want to expose it to the same life my Leshiy has lived. My Lelya is a great small gun. But even though they are small, they are clubby compared to the Leshiy. I think you already know what will suit your needs best. Time to get out the credit card and get on a waiting list.

How will you be filling it?
I’m a hand-pumper, so I’d probably pass on the Edguns.
Did you consider an Air Arms S500 TDR? Comes with its own custom fitted backpack and is “nicer“ than the Edguns, while not giving up functionality.
-
Or how about a custom P-rod? Get a nice folding stock, maybe a 20 FPE tune.

Have one of those too:) with a folding stock I prefer mine in it’s current stock tune of 12 foot pounds

I have many options for filling from hand pump to small to big cylinders to compressor however that mentioned the L1 is totally hand pump friendly because i never pass 250 bar. I’ve hand pumped to 300 but it’s pointless. The L2 is hand pump able if you pump to 250 bar but it’s not something I want to do all the time

.25 350 L2 would be a great rig for sure. Forget the .22? I use. A 5.11 Rush 12 to carry my l1 for now but I’m assuming I’d probably have to get an Ebelstrock Secret Weapon or Cherry Bomb we shall see

I was gonna chime in but you beat me to it.
I handpumped my Leshiy all the way up to 300 Bar a few times, but stuck to 250 when I was shooting it daily.
You know, the PP750 is a decent backpacker, but it's a SPA, so it's a gamble. Other super-compacts? Ataman BP-17 and their folding-stock carbine. Atamans are purportedly built as tough as the EdGuns.
-
I’ve got the L1 and the L2. Both awesome in their own ways. I think you just need to get the L2 and quit kicking this can down the road, lol. Seriously though, it is so different a lot different than the 1, so you are not really buying ANOTHER Leshiy.
Have fun deciding.

I'll sell you my AEA backpacker for 2k , and you can call it highend,

I have the pp750 :) it’s a cool little gun not a L2

L2 it is now I have to sell my kidney
-
Ultimate back packer .... If you can find one.

I'd vote L2. I will eventually get one...just gotta overcome the price and pull the trigger

Not what would normally fall in to high end but my NP03 comes apart on less than a minute for a backpack fit and tuned to 2 full mags (20 shots) at 900fps with polymags in 25cal. Can hit a 6inch gong with it at 180 yards repeatedly and nothing inside 50 yards is safe.

I wish it came with a folding stock or this is a great option for a beater gun. I don’t want to have to take a wrench out to install the stock to use.

I still think the Lelya, as good as they are, is still a little heavy in a backpack. Some of that depends on the scope, but I prefer hiking with my Leshiy over my LElya. And yeah, I'm aware of the differences between Scott's Lelya 1 and our Lelya 2.
I'm not surprised to see so many votes for EdGuns.

Having the L1 I know they’re bad ^&* so the L2 is definitely #1 probably in line for the next investment. I’d probably skip on the Lelya because of the bulk.

Mike the nice idea you have about it being .22 cal in my case is the fact that I've got a nice arsenal of molds for .22 cal, you could shoot about any of the .22's that I cast depending on what you intend to use it for. Personally I've been looking at the AEA HP semi auto 22's because of that however for the hunting that I do my 25 cal semi is one whole lot of fun to carry and shoot.
