Title: Benji 392...Should I lube or not lube?
Post by: benji397 on December 03, 2021, 03:50:07 PM
I've had my Benjamin about 3 weeks and I completely disassembled it today for a good cleaning. It had paint overspray in the main air tube and with pumping and the oil it was looking slimy. So I cleaned as best I could... no solvents; just rags, warm water and dawn. And, a little acetone on a rag to get the air tube as clean as I could. Upon re-assembly, I have lost 20-30 FPS on 10 pumps. When I re-assembled the valve, I put a small amount of Pellgun oil on my finger and rubbed it on the check valve and exhaust valve, it was really a light film. I also did the same thing to the striker (hammer). Could too much oil cause this or too little oil? I reused my o'rings since they were so new, should I put new ones on? Any and all help greatly appreciated.

Absolutely keep oil on the pump linkages. 2 to 3 drops on each link point per tin of pellets should be enough.
Oil will migrate from there to the valve, etc. through pumping and shooting.

Yes, I forgot to mention that but I put oil in the linkages too.

If you open the pump arm all the way and put a few drops of oil around the edges of the pump head, the oil will quickly slide down to the edges of the pump cup and you will quickly see your fps rise. I bet you'll get back to your original speed.  The oil helps with the sealing of the pump cup and the tube.  Don't forget, only use non-detergent oil.
