Title: anschutz match 250
Post by: Jerald K on September 03, 2021, 01:39:03 AM
I have an old anschutz match 250 that looks like it needs the recoil damper seals to be replaced. Checking to see if anyone has had any experience of changing the seals?  Are there any gun smiths that work
on these old rifles?  This old rifle is a piece of eye candy, and shoots to match that.  Would it be wise to stick some money into an old rifle that has issues or move on to something newer? Thank you for any advice.

I'd say fix it, but that's just me.
You might try posting in German airgun gate, lots of knowledge there too.

Lots of YouTubes and such on doing the work.

A new gun with the same charm and character as your 250 won't come cheap; and if you get the 250 fixed, you'll have the satisfaction of having saved a nice rifle from neglect.  Dave Slade (Airgunwerks) doesn't work on Anschutz, but I'm sure there are smiths that do.  Might try Scott Schneider (Motorheads AG Tuning Services) or Pilkington Competition; or save some money by doing it yourself.

Thank you for the help ,  not much help in the US,   The custom gun parts  in the   UK  are great, I have the damper kit on the way and instructions to install you tube. Some say this model is fairly easy to work on.
I hated to see this rifle ending up as a coat rack.

The 250 is second to none in the fit-and-finish department, just gorgeous rifles of amazing quality. In their day they never quite knocked the FWB rifles off the top rung in international matches, but they definitely can hold their own, and always had a dedicated following.

The Anschutz guns have a reputation for being unreliable, which IMHO is primarily due to all those years when you couldn't get parts for the recoil damper. The current parts kit is great, otherwise you had to find super-scarce original bits or a smith able to fabricate them.

But really, all the other classic target rifles of those days (Walther, Diana, FWB) had OEM seals that did not hold up; a byproduct of plastic technology of their day. The likes of these classics will not be seen again, and are all definitely worth the necessary TLC.

Winter here in good old N.D.  I had time to take the Anschutz 250 apart and install   the new seals, took my time and it went really good with the instructions from Custom Gun Parts. The bear trap gave me little trouble, but found out if the rifle has not been used for a while the old lube on the bear trap has to be removed and relubed. It works pretty good now.  It was well worth the effort to fix it up It shoots a ragged one hole 4 shot group off the rest. Thank you for all the replies from one happy A-250 shooter

Here's one that's been repaired from the typical damage when used without fluid in the hydraulic damper. The current custom gun parts red damper seals are lifetime, so if you have a damaged gun don't just discard it?
