Need a nice rifle for the kids. Does not hurt that I can shoot it too :)
I have no experience with the Schutze but have shot the HW30. Its a superb little rifle but at twice the price I could buy one RWS for the girls an my boy.
Has anyone shot the Schutze and what where their impressions of it. Thanks

If it is the 240 classic lowest powered model it is a beautiful looking gun, but the one i sold to my buddies kid had a direct sear trigger and about 4-5 lbs pull.

The new Schutze is getting the T-05 trigger. You just have to make sure you are not getting old stock direct sear.
JM has a great price for the 30S: http://www.airrifleheadquarters.com/catalog/item/8000185/8734064.htm (http://www.airrifleheadquarters.com/catalog/item/8000185/8734064.htm)

As much as I like Diana, the HW30 is going to be the better gun. For the price of the Schutze, you can get a good, used HW30 and, for a little more, a new one.

Go with the HW. They are the best low powered springer on the market IMO

HW30 for sure :P

Remember, I have to take in to consideration that this gun will be used between 10-13 year olds. If they were to drop either I would cringe and try my best not to blow a fuse. But the HW's steeper price would make it even harder to do so.
I have looked around for used ones, but man they sure do not come up often. Thanks

The schutze (240 classic) is a nice rifle small and compact, I found it to be extremely accurate with open sites. Also it was very accurate with a scope but not for tiny targets.
My buddies son wanted an airgun and because I had RWS rifles and would shoot with him it had to be an RWS. So I sold him that gun and the rws 350 scope for 50 bucks because of the times he let me on the farm to shoot.
I can tell you that elijah at 10 years old absolutely loves that gun and I set it up for 25 yard shots and he hits pop bottle caps regularly at that distance, very good youth gun just not for the seasoned shooter looking for the precision of a t05. But if you get one with a t05 you are laughing I would think..I love rws rifles.

If you are worried about the kids dinging it, then maybe you should go with a used gun in good condition. If you are not in a hurry, there are usually one or two Diana 24's or 25's (also Winchester 425's) that come up for sale every month or so. If you can find one with the adjustable trigger, they will give nothing up to a Schutze, in fact, they will be better over-all. Quite often they will already have gotten their first dent, scrape, stain, pit or ding. I have two 24's, one in .177 and one in .22, with the direct sear trigger and they aren't all that bad, either. Expect to pay about $150 for a really nice one. Another gun to consider is the older Gamo Delta. Lube tuned and with one of Gene's triggers, they can be fun and accurate, too. And they cost a lot less, including the after-market work.

If that's the gun called "Delta Cadet", I know where I can pick one up for 50 dollars, give or take a couple of bucks, assuming it's still available.
Grumpy- if you decide you might consider that gun, let me know, and I'll check to see if it's still unsold.

Try going for the take. Fifty bucks would be my upper limit on one of those. They also sold them under the Daisy name as the 1140 or 11-something. Had one and it weren't too bad.
