Title: Another "Amazing Benjamin .22 caliber 392S" thread. Accuracy? Wow!
Post by: Tallbald on July 25, 2021, 11:42:07 PM
I'd been pleased with some 1/2 inch groups at 21 yards from my new 392S .22 caliber, shooting 14.3 grain RWS Superdomes. But tonight I had opportunity to switch to Air Arms 18 grain Diablo pellets and I'm amazed at what I myself was able to shoot. The farthest point I can shoot in our yard is 21 measured yards and my range consists of a .22 rimfire bullet trap up against our yard barn. I sandbag rest my rifle on patio furniture.
Trying out between 4 and 7 pumps on this new rifle I quickly learned that 6 pumps is its' sweet spot. Below are three successive groups shot as I made adjustments to zero in the UTG 3-9X Bugbuster scope. Two groups have essentially touching holes. I didn't have my chrono set up but next time I hope to use it.
Also I was pleased to find there was no residual air left after any shot from my fine little rifle. The trigger could use some lightening. Hoping to learn here a quick way to reduce pull weight while getting a complete air dump. And I understand that after a few hundred rounds the trigger my wear in and improve some.
The modified bolt handle operates with my right thumb to close into battery easily, and it's easiest to roll a pellet into the chamber feed area from the left side.
Glad as goodness I followed the thread a couple months ago wherein members here were discussing their decision to order a 392S. Comments from members bumped me off the fence on ordering. And the 25% savings promo code with free shipping helped fund the Baker mount and scope. Thanks folks. This is a wonderful gun.

Nice! I too am trying out my 392S and may switch up from 14- to 18-grain ammo myself to see how it prints the targets, but after about ten shots today (trying out a new BugBuster on it) in 100-plus Vegas temps, the little rivers of sweat running down my forehead and now the T-storm warnings on TV brought me back inside.

I understand the heat issue. Here in Bowling Green, KY (Southern KY) it was 91-93 today and humid. Then some heavy rain came in for half and hour and immediately afterwards the sun converted the wetness to steam I believe. Choking humidity that kept me from getting out shooting any earlier than a couple hours before dusk. Only 6 1/2 weeks ago I had rotator cuff right shoulder repair surgery and have to be cautious manipulating my new rifle also. So there's that for me.
I'd read here that the heavier pellets seemed to perform some better in these multi-pumps. That appears to be the case at least for my 392S.
 Hope your shooting goes great!
Don

Thanks Don. Take care of that shoulder, I had my right done in 2012 and I don't recall being able to pump up Anything after just 6.5 weeks, you must be healing up good. 8)

Nice shooting Don. It seems like your shoulder is healing up nicely. Take it easy just in case.

Did you have to clean paint out of the end of the barrel on this one or are they getting better?  I was going to wait for a new 362, but this is worth looking at it seems!

I cleaned the paint out of one but still need to do the other. We are moving and cleaning up so airgun stuff needs to take a back seat for the time being.

Thank you all for the kind thoughts and wishes on my shoulder surgery. I'm improving daily.
My 392S did have to have about 1/2 an inch of paint removed from the muzzle. I used acetone on a Q-Tip, with the muzzle pointing downward. My first 392,, a wood stocked 2015  PA model had paint in the muzzle also. It was something I knew nothing about until I was taught by members here how to check for and remove it. Accuracy improved on that one too afterwards. So much good and helpful information here.
That one wears aperture sights and is a wonderful rifle too, and has a slimmed and contoured stock I modified to fit me better than the factory shape.
