Dumb-ish question-but here it comes
On ebay there is a Hatsan 155 Torpedo vortex(guess that means sealed pneumatic spring)
Asking $230+$20 shipping +$25 tax=so almost $250
Is it worth $220 or so to me
Plus side
1) it is an under lever I love under levers I hate break barrels(-front sight in the way when cocking-droop inevitable-wear at hinge will happen)-under levers make more sense(except weight)
2)Nice walnut-I don't care that it is "not as good as beech" accuracy-I am not a good shot so hardly matters
3)Extremely powerful-always a plus-no I don't hunt-brother does-but not for me-look too much like my pets and I would feel obliged to eat them-not about to eat a bushy tailed rat!(Yeah
squirrels are thieves, but.. steal bird seed etc)
Negative side
1) almost 11 freakin' LBS- 11 abs-without a SCOPE??
2)I only shoot standing freehand-and 70 years old-seasonably fit(20 pull-ups-cheating pull-ups-but ) small person 170lbs-so 1 and 2
3)not a fan of NO REAL STEEL SPRING! I wonder if a spring can be retrofitted-I just "don't like" that sort of spring-when a steel spring is simpler and adjustable (maybe heavier)
I already put in a bid that would make it $220 delivered-feel free to out bid me-safe bet you guys follow this stuff more closely
I have always wanted a HATSAN- walnut- and Turkey has a long armaments history(used a Christian to cast cannon to take Istanbul(Constantanople sic/Byzantia-1453 OR SO))
So is it worth $250 guessing he won't take my initial offer
It does not say if this is some sort of refurb-guessing YES-
Thanks-fell free to tell me I should not ask such questions, but..
Charlie
PS I have a PVC cheater so cocking it no problem) made it for 460 but don't need it at all-yet
PPS I only shoot in my hallway bed rooms 10 meters bedroom hallway bedroom-lock pets dog cats out of course

I'm a big Hatsan fan, but I say DON'T buy it!
I have one in 22 caliber and it is a LARGE HEAVY BENCH RIFLE. Accuracy is easier than breakbarrels, but still not quite as easy as PCP.
The Torpedo series have a sliding (MOVING) barrel that you cycle (in reverse) like a bolt action powder burner to load a pellet.
Shooting goes like this:
Unlock underleaver and compress spring (air, gas, coil, whatever)
Press safety lever-lock button so you can return lever and relatch it in the shooting position.
Unlatch barrel, slide forward, and latch in forward position.
Insert pellet.
Unlatch barrel from forward position, pull towards you and latch barrel in firing position.
Lay the (HEAVY) rifle on your bench.
Acquire your target.
Unlatch safety.
Fire away.
Repeat.
Initially I felt the whole process was ridiculous, but after about 100 shots I was going through the motions with muscle memory. As long as the bearings for the sliding barrel are TIGHT, accuracy should remain easier than breakbarrels. However, I have read (but not experienced) that some folks are loosing accuracy as the barrel bearings get sloppy.
Mine was a refurb direct from Hatsan for ~$220 (sale & free shipping when I got it). It has a beautiful expanse of Turkish Walnut for a stock and IMO is a fine BENCH RIFLE. I'll keep mine as the one and only example of the unique rifle style, but it is more of a wallflower than a frequent shooter.
My 22 is powerful but I expect this basically MOD135 powerplant to "peak" in 25 caliber. I've not seen one offered in 30 cal but would stop at 25 due to availability and cost of the 30 cal pellets.
There was a refurb Torpedo 155 25 cal on the Hatsan website for a few weeks. It was $229 and I was tempted to get it during a free shipping window. But I resisted and someone FINALLY removed that temptation yesterday.
THANKS to whoever that was!
I suggest you look into an entry level side lever PCP and a cheap ~$50 hand pump. It is not that hard to pump and when done correctly is good low impact exercise. Something like 40+ shots in the smaller calibers and maybe 20 shots in some of the larger calibers makes them very practical freehand hunting rifles.
I have MANY breakbarrels and no plans to reduce that number. Also have a few PCP rifles and ONLY use a hand pump. They are here to stay also. Each style has its pros and cons. IMO that's GOOD! I LIKE having the ability to CHOOSE the best style rifle for the task at hand.

I have a 155, 135, Dominator carbine all .177 and springers. And I have a Proxima .177 gas ram. I prefer wood and steel spring but the Dominator only comes in composite in the USA and the Proxima only comes in gas ram. I had a 155 .22 and a 100x .177. I only shoot off a bench and I'm 70 like you.
The 155 is okay, I like it. It's heavy, hard to cock and kicks hard and it'll break a cheap scope. I like the bolt even though it's an extra step. Pellets are easier to load than a typical under lever. You have to make sure the bolt is closed all the way or it could blow open. That's loud and like a dry fire and it can blow the breach seal out.
The 100x is a smaller alterative, not much smaller. I sold mine because it's the same gun just smaller. They are pretty guns. I have AK/SKS slings on my 155, 200s and Proxima.
The big Hatsans with the picatinny/weaver rail need an offset mount. With a regular mount the scope is not close enough to your eye for good eye relief.
The most accurate of my Hatsans is the Dominator carbine.
The only 155 springer I saw was on amazon for $400. There are re-furb gas rams(vortex) on Hatsan USA for $229.
If you want a Turkish under lever with wood the Proxima is an alternative. It's still heavy, hard to cock, a little tamer shot cycle. It got some bad reviews by people didn't understand know how it worked. The Dominator and Proxima are similar in construction. I think the front sight on the Proxima is ugly. I'd rather it was made without sights like the Dominator cabine. Hatsan USA refurb Proxima $229.
If the Umarex Synergis had a wood stock I'd have one. The Hatsan break barrel repeater has a plastic stock and is just plain ugly.
I know I was never happy unless I got what I wanted if I could afford it. Fun stuff.

I was just looking closer at you post again and you need to get those big guns outside. At least 20-25 yards. My back yard range is 25 yards. I have a safe big back stop against the back of my two car garage. And once a month I drive 130 miles to Cross, S.C. for a fun shoot where we can shoot out to 100 yards. We've been doing this for about eight years one week-end a month. We have canceled only about three times and I have missed maybe 3 or 4 others. Get on line and find a range where you can shoot or check out the fun shoot gate on this blog.
For inside you need a little fun. Google Ebay Crosman air rifles. There is a little Crosman 3100 break barrel. Made in Spain by Cometa. I'd have bought it but I already have a 3100. $149. There is another 3100 but in .22 on ebay but it just says Crosman air rifle but it's a 3100. $112. Or get a 1377 pumper pistol with a shoulder stock.

Thanks for the info and insight
I was sorta' lookin' for someone to "read my mind" and you did
So the Hatsan 155 is a NO
1)It is HEAVY-you guys emphasized it is HEAVY-I was wondering if anyone would say "it is not that heavy-or it does not "feel" as heavy as it is" -some guns seem lighter than they are
but the 155 is BIG and HEAVY and it feels just that way-
2) backyard is out for me-spook neighbors-these nice air rifles-LOOK LIKE RIFLES-pricy looking wood stocks-they look like rifles-
and my yard-maybe I could get 50 feet-but downrange- 70 feet- would be neighbor's house-so
3) You guys imply that QC is a bit iffy-that is impression I got(but such pretty wood)
4)The ebay seller was vague on this being as refurb or a display model or whatever-so
I will pass-scoped my TX 200 IS 10 3/4 LBS-and it feels every bit of that.I usually shoot my HW77K and the TX 200 back to back-standing freehand=open sights on 77=scope on TX 200
Going from the 8.75 lb HW 77 to the 10.75lb TX 200 the weight difference is A LOT-
Thanks
Charlie

The seller-bay-has dropped his initial price from $230 to $200-with $20 shipping
Still NO TAKERS/bidders?
It is in the box-looks new-but is advertised as "used" in some fashion- a refurb or store sample -in any case looks new
But no takers at probably under $250 delivered(assuming sales tax-8-10% 9.25% NOLA metro)
New ones on ebay are about $400+ +
Seems like a bargain if you wanted one.
Heck if it was "just 9lbs" instead of 11 lbs I would give it a try- 11lbs-no scope almost double an AR15

I have the opportunity to pick up a 155 in .22 that I think is a spring gun approximately 8 years old with less than a 500 count tin of pellets through it for $175 from the estate of my best friend. He didn't like it because of the massive weight. He took the rear sight off to scope it and its doubtful I will be found. It should come with a one-piece base that I gave him after discovering bbl. droop on my Diana M34. Your thoughts?

Does it have sentimental value for you? If so, buy it!
You can always sell it later. Since he was your best friend I would think that the family would GIVE it to you.
When my best bud died, his wife gave me all his guns and fishing stuff.

Usually this is false hope and Hatsan's error filled web site "pukes" when you try to add the item to your shopping cart. In this rare case there ACTUALLY IS ONE left and it does add to my cart. Since I already have one (in 22 cal) I'll pass.
