Title: Norma Golden Trophy FT. .22 cal. 15.9gr. Pellet Review
Post by: Hypervelocity 1 on July 22, 2021, 10:22:03 AM
 Hey shooters,
I just got these Norma .22 15.9gr domed pellets yesterday. I tried them in 4 rifles with surprisingly good results. The Beeman Mach 12.5 , The RWS N-Tec 350 , The Hatsan 135 , and The Benjamin Titan. All the groups were at 52 yards. Every gu ecept the RWS could use this as it's go-to
pellet.
The pellets seemed to be all very consistently formed and clean. No debris was found in the tin of 200. They fit the breech of every gun just right except a little snug on the RWS. I didn't chrony any of them because it was almost dark and I was running out of light fast. I will do FPS tests if someone needs it. Just ask. I posted the Hatsans group of 5 . The first 2 shots are the top 2. I then adjusted my diopter for better focus and took the last 3 shots , and that is the result. This testing was done very quickly because of the time I had to work with. I have more guns to try these with also. But here's just a quick look for you guys. I'm truly impressed.
                     Till next time,
                     God Bless,
                     Mike

I found some at Academy sports about a month ago for $9.99.  Accuracy was mediocre out of my Hatsan 125 and freakin awful out of my XS60C but the pellets redeemed themselves when I ran some through my 2nd model Crosman 1400.  It stacked them at 25 yards.  I find the molded ledge on the pellet head to be a bit disconcerting.  I fired several shots from the Hatsan into a bucket of water so I could examine the pellets and see how well the pellet engaged the rifling.  The bore of my Mod 125 is a little tight and these pellets engraved both the head and the skirt very uniformly.  The pellets were very clean and uniform with no mold flashing on them and no lead swarf in the tin.
I also picked up a tin of Norma S-Target Match .177 wad cutters.  They were non starters in all my .177 rifles but shot very well out of my Crosman 357 pistol. However, at $11.00  for 300 pellets I think I’ll stick to Crosman destroyers in the 357.

Carter, I got mine from straight shooters for about 7-8 bucks. I think Midwayusa has Norma pellets from $7.21 , $7.99 , and $8.99 just about every type with free shipping if you spend $49.00 . I think I'll stack up on both calibers so I can do some major testing. I have a penetration test coming up first I have to do with ballistic gel that got pushed back due to the rifle being used needed repaired. Everything is almost in order for that test. Now I might as well add the Norma pellets to that test too. It's a .177 cal. test.

Over at A.G.N.  Folks got these from midway and not happy with the shipping.  Lot of spilled tins loose in  the box.

Academy is where I was going to try.  I got to thin out what pellets I have now or I'll be overloaded in .177

I don't get academy has them on line easy but no local store has any on the shelves.

If they did a d just drive to one and grab a tin or 2  to try fast .

I email led them and asky why plenty on line but none kept in store

Of course no reply ....

I grabbed the last three tins at the Academy here.  I’m happy enough with them. Sure wish I could find them cheaper.  They shoot better than CPHP’s in the model 1400.

Tallahassee shows to have some but that's just a bit too far to risk a drive for me.

Sounds like you fellas have it all worked out pretty well. Glad to see that our sport is generating some more manufacturers with more products. It can only advance us in a good way with the more competition that comes. Equals=Good for US!

I guess Norma is owned by the same group as RWS.  There's a winki deal on it.

I thought they claimed they make Olympic grade pellets as well ?   Seems they could do a better job at keeping them in a store.

I got a sporting goods store mom and pop kind that's on there dealer list, but when I called and asked them about Norma pellets and there a dealer they said , ya we got set up to sell them but we put in a order and they never send us any to sell

At the risk of resurrecting an dead post, I will share a little more info on these Norma pellets as compared to CPHPs. I have just completed weighing, measuring the head size, and rolling for head/skirt proportion a full tin of each brand in an effort to determine which variables matter most in accuracy. I have not shot them, yet, so no results to share, but I can attest to the increased manufacturing consistency of the Norma's over the CPHP's. Weighing to .02gn, the Norma's repeatedly came in at exactly 16.00gn with only 2 of 200 weighing less, and the maximum weight of any pellet in the tin being 16.22gn. (15.9gn is the stated weight) This compares to the CPHP's variance from 13.80 to 14.62gn. (14.3gn is the stated weight.)

Headsize variability and it's related head/skirt proportion measurements were also much more consistent in the Norma.

I only had to reject 5 pellets from the 200 count Norma tin for distorted skirts, gashed heads, or other defects. The CPHP tin of 500 had almost 10% rejects. (I am not sure how much of this can be accounted for by manufacturing or by handling...)

Since I have completed sorting the pellets, I will now shoot them by category, and test for accuracy. My hope is to find the specific category of CPHP's that is most accurate for my gun. Additionally, I will be able to see if the heavier, longer, pointed Norma's are more accurate than the best performing CPHP category.

(I have lot's of dead time in my life, right now, so why not go down this rabbit hole?)  :-)

I got some of the .177 9.1gr golden trophy a while back, the problem I had was they were dirty, like somebody scooped up some lead shavings off the floor and dumped them in the tin.  They shot decent, but didn't really fit my needs so they got put away (and forgotten).   But needs change..  So I replaced my barrel, found them, figured I'd shoot a few.  At 25 yards they're grouping almost as good as FTT 8.64 grain and firing faster at 9.1 grains.  So they do merit further testing and are currently slugging it out with 9.57 barr FT.  Hoping for a mild winter so I can declare a winner before the woodchuck under my brush pile wakes up.

Thanks for all your work Steve.  I’ve stocked up on these since my Crosman 1400 shoots them very accurately.  It’s nice to know that they are that consistent as far as weight and diameter.
