Title: 392S bolt assembly 392-011. Only from Crosman? Bolt assembly question too pleas
Post by: Tallbald on July 03, 2021, 09:50:33 PM
I want to modify a bolt for my new 392S with a turned, small diameter cylindrical knob for withdrawing, pushing forward and turning clockwise to lock the bolt into battery. This will allow me to mount my Bugbuster scope farther back in the rings and improve my sighting. Is Crosman the only source of the bolt assembly part number 392-011?
Also, does anyone here know if, when the bolt is made, the actual bolt handle is a separate part attached to the bolt body and secured by, say, silver soldering, crimping or adhesive? How the bolt handle is attached to the bolt body affects how I will do what I want to do. I cannot determine this using a magnifying glass.
 Thanks as always friends.
Don

I'm guessing these are some oddball questions I'll need to investigate myself further. Did several variants of searches to no avail. Seems that the bolt is not a hot seller among parts retailers so I suppose the factory is my only recourse. Thank you to those that took a moment to read my posting.

TimmyMac @ Mac1 solution.

Mac1 made in USA. This Nickel Plated Knob is a replacement knob for the Factory Bolt. We use it to convert the Bolt so the handle doesn't swing up and hit the scope. You need to thread the bolt back end to 10X32TPI and all you need to do is screw the Knob on with threadlock. We use this Knob when doing scope grooved Steroid guns and it will work with any low scope set-up..

This is wonderful and thanks again. I was expecting to need to turn a knob on my small lathe, but I don't have a knurling tool. Looking at the protruding portion of the bolt when locked into battery, there's not a lot of length available to turn down for threading. But obviously it's do-able. Wouldn't it be wonderful if a knurled knob bolt was a factory accessory! issues with scope clearance, especially on the new 392S is a well known thing. I just really  prefer a lower mounted scope, closer to the bore. For decades I was taught that the closer to the bore axis the scope is mounted, the easier various range zeroing becomes.
Thanks again folks.

Dunno for sure, bur maybe the diameter of the shaft of the Mac 1 knob is the same as that of the bolt, so it will slide into the receiver.

An excellent point on the diameter. I can cut off the handle, and turn the rear of the bolt body down for die threading myself. This may be a great option! Don

Wow. September. Thanks for posting as it saves me a call. I find myself considering modifying the bolt handle rather than turning and threading the back of the bolt body. A "spoon" style handle as it's been called on cartridge rifles is a possibility. One that allows the scope to be moved a bit rearward and clears the bolt handle.
Thank you again. Don
