That's just wrong that just take to much out of the sport.

This change will make it easier to shoot higher scores.

It will also take all of the true skills out of shooting !

Your only concern will be if a bug or large piece of dust interferes with your shot !
Turn on the air purifiers, and wear your dust free outfits.

That's unless they intend on using strong enough lasers, that will burn right through the dust and bugs ?

How sad.  This changes everything about that aspect of the event.  Zero trajectory and I suspect the trigger will be purely electronic with no internal mechanism contributing to lock time.  Why bother?  This is carrying virtual shooting too far.  Leave it to the video gamers, please.

Of course, the next thing will be the air pistol/rifle competition.

I had first heard about this stuff about a year ago, never thought it would get off the ground. And using "cost" as a talking point is about as ridiculous as they come. $ 10 worth of pellets would supply all of the contestants for the entire contest. The cost to retrofit the lasers to the rifles would cover pellets for the next millennium! At least they haven't brought up poisoning Mother Earth with lead.

What's next, rubber javelins?  How are the athletes who have trained hard with conventional target pistols going to make the transition?  Totally unfair to them.  At least the Olympics are no longer allowing the special swimming suits as used in the Australian games.  Hopefully, the pendulum will swing back here, also.

Maybe we should switch to lasers also! I'd love to see what a turbo tuned 1w. would do to a nutter!
Hey Gene.... I've got a new project for you! :D

I thought about this for a few minutes.   I have an idea,  why not just make the pretend gun of all children,  you know the index finger type gun and have the competitors shout, " Pow, Pow".

And that's just a short step away from "let's not and say we did".   :D

Go to the "sporting" section of any book store.  Maybe a handful of books on shooting and fishing.  If you're lucky and it's a big store, a book on knife making.  The rest of the shelves are filled with books on NBA, NFL, Nascar, horse racing, PGA.....in short, sit you your fat @@@ and work the remote "sports".  It's what men have come to.  Thank the Lord there are still a few how actually DO things like shoot.  (Not knocking golf.  That takes skill.)

Sooner or later, someone is going to pull that finger, and the officials will rule it "foul", for real.   :o

I saw this posted a few places on the web. Apparently this is going to be reality, at least in the next Pentathalon. Frankly, I am disgusted, albeit not surprised. First it was doing away with high power, long range shooting, who knows what is next. Hey, let's just do away with all these ridiculous, very expensive facilities. We can just have all the "athelets" compete on a Wii.........Sheesh!

I was thinking about this yesterday and it dawned on me that we might not be the only ones disgusted by this.  When did they change over to air pistol from firearms?  I will bet there was many a sad shake of the head for all those .22LR pistoleros when that happened.  The Wii idea sounds spot on.  They can also "compete" online in their underwear and bathrobes.
