I am considering being in the market for a new .22 air rifle. That being said I am interested in the Air Venturi Avenger in .22. The two big questions for me are:
How loud is this thing really? Cant tell from the videos. Is this thing truly backyard friendly?
The next question is air pressure. My Ninja 90ci 4500psi tank is regulated to about 2900 psi. The Avenger goes to over 4000 psi. Is my tank to limiting for the Avenger? Is being able to only fill the tank to 2900 psi really going to defeat the potential of the rilfe? In other words should I be looking at another rifle?
thanks

Some folks also shoot their Avengers from only a 3000 psi fill, I do it myself. Still get a useful number of shots and enjoyment as long as you are not going for big power, as then you would certainly limit your shot count per fill.
If you are okay with investing a few bucks, the DonnyFL adapter for the Avenger effectively quiets the gun down by itself, even before adding a silencer. And the adapter comes with a nice knurled ring to hide the threads for when you don't have a silencer attached:

I fill my Avenger .22 to 3600 psi with reg set at 2200 psi. If you hot rod it (Fill to 4300 psi with reg at 2700 psi + you risk leaks.

As a guess how many shots would I get if I could only fill to 2900 psi?

This is subjective. It all depends on the tune and how much power you want out. What weight pellet do you plan to shoot?
Not sure really where to go with the “backyard friendly” part. In my opinion this is a really dumb term somehow adopted by the airgun community. Is it legal to shoot where you are ? If yes then do it. Your lawnmower will be more backyard unfriendly than any airgun but everyone mows their lawn. Therefore don’t play into the oh my god they are shooting a gun...oh no those are bad. That is what backyard friendly is really pandering too. I would invite the neighbors over to check out what you are doing and let them try the fun. That would be my approach rather than try to hide it. They aren’t firearms and when kept subsonic sound very different and are backyard friendly. Anyway rant over...lol.

I fill my.22 Avenger to about 3,000 psi and get about 60 shots with reg at 1400 psi.
Don't think it's very loud at all and neighbors never complain.

I use the term "backyard friendly" because it is used commonly. I dont want a rifle that after the first shot will scare all the squirrels out of the ares. I hear conflicting reports as to the loudness of the rifle. Some put an additional 200 dollar moderator on them. Then again some people want it silent. To put it in perceptive I have a Hatsan Flashpup thats sound level is just great. I bought a Disco years ago with no sound suppression and it was as loud or louder than a .22 lr.

Any idea as to the fps its putting out at 1400 psi? Also what pellets does you Avenger seem to like? Have you check the accuracy at say 50 or 70 yards? Just wondering. I cant even see a squirrel at 70 yards around here but it it shoots accurately at that range is should be great at closer ranges.
thanks

Definitely watch these two videos on the avenger. The quiet part again is super subjective. If that is super important I would recommend the gamo urban. Deadly accurate and the quietest projectile flinger I have owned. It also loves cheap xman 14.3 ammo.

My Avenger .22 dba at rifle was 92.8. At target 20 yards away it was 90.5 dba.
-
My Gamo Urban (at about 715 FPS) is significantly louder than my Avenger at at about 780 FPS.
They both needed to be silenced.
But I could silence the Avenger easier because it has a big shroud.
To silence the Avenger I used the Crosman baffle used in the Nitro Piston break barrels.
These are relevant links related to silencing the Avenger (same shroud as the Nova Vista air rifles):

Mine is pushing the cphp @880 and jsb 15.89 @850 fps.
I've not shot groups at 70 yds but it plinks tin can easy at 75 w/ the 14.3s. Jsb seems to group the tightest at the 35-40yds I normally shoot at with the 14.3s right behind. At 45yd. either will peg a 3/4" spinner. And not pellet picky!
My .22 flash QE seems to make about the same amount of noise how it's set.

So far very happy with my $300 gun,I'm almost thinking of one in .177

These charts are what helped me most in figuring where I wanted my gun set up at after just getting it. They are contained in the videos that Trucker3573 posted, in case you wanted to quick reference later.
In order, these are the tunes that -
Eco: gets you best shot count at still-usable velocities
Pro: best balance and the one I have my gun set at
Power: the name says it all (less total shots though)
OEM: how the gun came set up from the factory

Good info guys thanks.
I know you said your Flash makes about the same amount of noise. If its the same as my flashpup in .25 I am perfectly happy with that. I think that gun is dead quiet.
Like Trucker3573 stated its subjective but if its the same as the flash and if the flash is about the same as the flashpup for me thats perfect. Dont understand why anyone would need a moderator if that is the case.

Really?? My urban pushes 14.3 at 880 and the loudest thing you can hear is the hammer hitting the valve.

I run mine around 1900 with 3 turns in on HS and get like 875 into the 880’s with crosman 19 gr ultra heavy domed pellets. Being I hand pump I refill well before the gun gets to 2k psi so not really sure on shot count you could squeeze out. Lots of power though.

I measured my 25 Avenger at over 90db when I was pushing 25.4 grain pellets over 900 fps. That was at a reg setting of 2400. I've since turned the reg down to 2200 (degassing first, of course). That is over 890 fps. I am not sure why anybody, including Steve, turns the reg up over 2500. The added velocity gets very small very fast when you start up over 2000. 1600 gave me over 30 ft. lbs.
The other reason for a Donny FL is to avoid clipping. If you get one and have clipping you will want the DonnyFL adapter. It slips down over the barrel to align it with the hole at the end of the shroud. I put a home made suppressor on mine to get it down in the mid 80 db level. Similar to my little 18 ft lb Prod.
I did not get complaints either when I was up over 90 db but I know they heard me. It's legal where I live to shoot a pellet rifle in your backyard. But I think keeping the sound level moderate by either tuning it down or using a moderator makes sense for me.
The effect of wind on pellets is surprisingly large. I am much more comfortable with 25-35 yard shots than 50 yards or further. I think the gun is accurate enough to hit a squirrel well at 50 yards or perhaps more but if it is windy I would probably not try it.
