Hi guys, I have BSA Air Rifle 4x32 scope which I kept in closet and didn't use for years. No internal problems, but over the time something happened to its rubber coated body; it's got very sticky and unpleasant to touch. Before disposing it, I decided to ask if anyone who knows how to clean or stabilize the surface want this scope for free. Unless you're close enough to stop by, just choose your shipping carrier and pay for the shipping from 11206 zip code in NY. Let me know in the next ten days.

Not interested butIve had to deal with what I call Sigma lens syndrome. A difficult job removing the stuff but Ive done it. You can get some fingernail polish remover or alcohol and scrub it. What I found useful is take 1 ply of soft napkin and adhere to any sticky spots it stays for a while. Camo tape or even electric tape would probably work for a while.

Have you tried contacting BSA? There may be a recall or an extended warrety. You have nothing to lose by calling and asking.

I had a BSA "Sweet 17" where the rubber coating turn tacky. I cleaned it off with acetone and a rag.
The finish underneath is a gloss, black / blued steel that cleaned up very nice.

Guys, thank you for your prompt replies and recommendations, but I have just two springers and five scopes, so this one can go. I don't think I will use it someday to spend time on cleaning it, but it can save money for some aspiring boy.

I had a similar issue with some mike stands and a cold heat soldering unit. The mike stand company replaced their units and let me keep the defective ones.
I cleaned the plasticizer off with alcohol and terrycloth rags. It removed the rubberized coating, but I could still use the mike stands without sticking to them.
Funny story about the stands, I blamed my kids for the stickiness thinking they got honey or sugar on them. The rubberizing was where you put your hands to adjust the height and angles so it made sense at the time.

Too many people have taken advantage of pay it forward that nobody is left to jump on them anymore. However its great for conversation while we wait.

Hi There Arthur, if no one else is interested, I would give a clean up a go. I am replacing the seals on an old crosman 2200 mag for my 8 year old and the current scope mounted seems to have an internal issue. Worst case scenario, he has a sticky scope (cant beat the price) besides, he's eight so his hands are probably filthy anyway. Thanks for the pay it forward

Sorry, Arthur, it got a new owner now.

Who is Arthur?
-
I have read through the posts twice and can't find a single Arthur...
-
Beats me, I have no idea )) Should ask 57West.

Haha, sorry guys. I have a hard time reading these little phone screens. Above Highlanders post said Author and I read it as Arthur. Glad you found a home for it. I will just pick up an inexpensive scope for the crosman.

Mystery solved :)

My Grand-Mother had a brother named Arthur.
Hoped "Great-Uncle Art" was back among the living talking airguns.

If you go to the library you'll find a lot of authors.
One of my favorite author is at the library is also an Arthur, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
He authored kind of a detective story.

Actually it's the whole state. It starts in San Francisco, and trickles all the way down. :-\
