Just curious if anyone has tried either of these eBay offerings as opposed to the Donnyfl. I’m especially interested in the 25 dollar one as I honestly will probably never buy a moderator for the gun and just want it to stabilize the barrel in the shroud. In my opinion it isn’t even close to needing a moderator . Here are the links.

I haven't tried either of those moderators but I do have a barrel band and it works pretty good. I did get that off of eBay. I don't have an avenger I have an origin but they are 90% the same gun same barrel same tube/shroud
-
They only had one of the 25 dollar ones so grabbed it. Will post how it works out.
-
I have two of the 25. ones they work fine for me ,them and a barrel band stopped my poi movement

Good to hear. Today I’m going to make sure all shroud and scope rail screws are tight. Mine shoots quite low which seems not uncommon. I think it will help with that.

Anyone have any experience with the ebay moderators and barrel stabilizers for the .22 air avenger. I am not really concerned with the noise of my rifle although a little quite would be a bonus. I am having poi issues with the gun. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated . Trying too get by on a small budget also .

I have this one from Geoffk and it works great: https://www.ebay.com/itm/333889982140?hash=item4dbd64cebc:g:ejMAAOSws~hgKWGL (https://www.ebay.com/itm/333889982140?hash=item4dbd64cebc:g:ejMAAOSws~hgKWGL)

The Avenger, Seneca Aspen, Nova Liberty/Freedom (all rifles are made by Nova Vista) have the same shroud diameter. For all these rifles I use the Crosman Nitro Piston baffle, part NP214-001.
It will not only stabilize the barrel but also act as a baffle.

I can vouch for this one, drops right in, works well and no increase in length.

I got the second one for my Umarex Origin. It made an immediate improvement in accuracy and cosistinancy of my shot strings.

Thanks everyone and Jerry also. So many options out there and I just wanted some real world experience from experienced users . Which I am not by the way. I finally had too return my gun back too pyramid air due too an air leak it had since I bought it in July and an off center pellet probe. Had poi changes and was contemplating trying too fix myself with all the you tube videos and past forums on here . But in the end I just want a gun functioning right too begin with but I already have the bug of wanting too too tinker and modify too make the gun the best it can be. I made mention too the repair shop too please make sure it has the updated air valve or poppet thanks too the forums and experience of the members on here. I am like a sponge and will soak up any advice or suggestions you guys can offer. . Thank you again.
-
I have 2 of the second ones. One on my. 25 avenger and the other on my .22 origin. They work well and are well made.
-
Is the second one just too clarify the one with the carbon fiber wrap and extends out 60 mm for $55 . Just wanting too be sure. Thank you.
-
I think donny fl has something simular I saw also. Any comparison experience with which one may better accuracy ?
-
I had two the 25.00 ones and blew both of them out the shroud ,the barrel band has worked great
-
I have placed one of these in each of my Nova Liberties. After some modification: light sanding and drilling out for barrel fit they work well enough for me. They have stabilized the barrels from rough treatment and point of aim is not disrupted by handling. Very inexpensive solution

Rdtrick did you have too drill out the threads and inside diameter too fit over the barrel and how did it fit within the shroud ?
-
I have one of these on my .22 Avenger. Quieted it down a little I bought the .25 version to help avoid "clipping". I'm happy with it so far.
A little Teflon tape on the threads will help to keep it from unscrewing without over tightening it.

Johnny4646 - If memory serves, I needed to sand the exterior of the baffle to just fit within the barrel shroud: used a hand drill in an attempt to maintain concentricity. The next step was to drill the threaded end large enough to just fit over the barrel and deep enough to push far enough in so the barrel shroud cap screws on. With some trial-and-error I was eventually able to get the baffles fitted and everything back together. I also put an O-ring onto the shroud cap to help keep it in place. The baffles I ordered were for .22 cal so they worked for both my .177 and .22. Really a simple job taking maybe 1 -> 1 1/2 hours to figure out the first one. This has made my Nova rifles, even the modified one more backyard friendly without breaking the bank.
-
I'm curious, has anyone had any of these installed and decided to go with a Donny Fl setup instead? Or have they been quiet enough to not make the price jump?
I'm the designer and manufacturer of the mod that extends 60mm and is carbon fiber vinyl wrapped.

The cheapest way to stabilize the barrel better would be to just move the existing barrel support to the end of the barrel. It sits about 5 inches from the end of the barrel. It is secured by a grub screw which goes into a divot on the barrel. You could try it with just the grub screw tightened and maybe drill a little divot if you like the results. The support is plastic so you cannot really get the grub screw real tight.
I use a DonnyFL with a Tanto. My barrel drooped a little without the adapter but I did not have clipping.

Yes, that might be the cheapest way, but then the barrel isn't being supported in the middle.
Maybe a second shroud/ barrel support for the rifle, similar to the factory one would help a bit.

I just ended up getting the Donny fl adapter. Use on my 22 and 25 cal guns. Works great and the guns have to be the best bang for the buck going right now. Can’t think of anything that really challenges the accuracy, power and consistency for 300 to 350.

I agree, they are excellent guns. I've had 6 or 7 of them, and an umarex origin. I needed to lap the .22s to get the entrance of the barrel slightly less tight, but they've all been accurate. I couldn't justify spending the $$ on the Donny Fl adapter and a moderator on top of that so I made my air stripper/ moderator unit for my personal guns and a few buddies asked if they were quieter than just the Donny Fl adapter, and they were much quieter. About as quiet as the adapter with a tanto. But much less $$. So I sold a couple to friends and then decided to try to make an eBay ad. They've been selling well, they take a lot of noise off and cost a little.more than just the adapter to run a moderator.

Kerndc, responding to your request re; what are others doing I have been testing quite a bit. First, my Avenger has one bbl. Band at the tip of the forend and thats all that’s needed. It really barks in 25cal and while I’m not done experimenting have some good results and is now among my quietest pcp’s.
Keeping it short; one hole drilled at the rear of the shroud and covered with 4 Mr. Clean fiber pads cut to fit over the bbl. At the breech. Four Ought steel wool packed into the shroud as well at the breech end up to the shroud centering ring. Presently a Donnyfl extender/thread adapter and tests with several suppressors. I feel the Donnyfl extender is wasting shroud space that could be put to better use and I plan to cut off the 4”over bbl. tube that exists in the shroud and ad a splitter and more baffles.
I would enjoy learning about your efforts and your product on eBay and sharing my results if you would like to pm me. I’m old and slow so be patient if I’m slow to respond.
Tom

Good thread, I'm bringing it back cause I'm like Tommygun " I’m old and slow so be patient if I’m slow to respond."

I tried one on my first Umarex Origin. It did quiet it down noticeably, but the main reason I got it was to support the barrel and hopefully help with POI shift. It and a good barrel band did help a lot.
Later after that Origin developed an internal leak, Umarex replace the gun. The replacement had some changes from the one it replaced. One of those changes was that it had internal baffles that also supported the barrel, so I just went with the barrel band on this time.

I've used 2 mono cores for years and I have 6 printed suppressors for my 2 Avengers. The 2 inch and the Mono Cores are the best performers IMO. However for barrel end stabilization I found the Mono Core to be better as they simply have a tighter fit on the barrel. Conversely the mono cores can be a PIA to remove if you shoot a lot and haven't broken down the barrel shroud assembly in a good while. Hence the attraction for the easy shorter (adds 2" to the muzzle length) moderator.
Excellent job guys. Moderator fits and works quite well. Subscriber and one or 2 other wise old GTA members my sincere thanks. Nice design and nice build. I recommend it.

Bingo! Call Up A.V. Repair and Warranty and see if you can just purchase an extra one or two for that matter if you'd like to take this further and also dampen harmonics. Also use a plastic bead or cylindrical pad in front of the set screw's nose. A little drop of clear nail polish on the bead and don't put too much force tightening the set screw. Make sure the Nail polish or light strength Loc Tite thread lock doesn't react with the plastic before using it. Hobby Lobby or Franklin's will have all kinds and sizes of plastic beads

OK, let me sneek back into the conversation for a minute or two as i have seen a likely problem with internal barrel supports and centering devices. I also believe that again I believe the OEM Air Venturi part is the best solution and why.
The barrel centering device that's standard on every Avenger is about as good as you can get folks but there is one easily fixed problem. These barrel centering/supporting sleeves are wider spaced, rides on perfectly sized O.D. O-rings that apply self centering, cushion and allows slight variances in I.D. size while still keeping barrel alignment along with dampening barrel vibration. They have set screws ( I'll get back to this in a moment) and importantly " You can easily rotate the shroud forward and back with them without wearing out or cross threading the fine threads that attach the shroud to the receiver. Wrecking those threads is a possdibility you don't want to have happen.
Now back to the set screw in the sleeve. The screw in the centering sleeve that came with my first .22 Avenger has a Sharp pointed Cone tip. It's usually used to screw into a small tapered indentation mostly put in with the tip of the Tap Drill. It allows the set screw to stay in that exact location and help prevent mating parts from moving.
If we had a jig or you could use the actual part to locate and hold at tap drill in location and centered while you lightly dimple the surface of the barrel you'd be OK but we don't and the alternative is trying to indent the barrel with a center punch and that's Not a good idea for several reasons. If you go with adding a couple of these babies GOOGLE
"grub screws with No Marr Tips" plenty of outlet retailers have them. Next the length wise plastic rib that has the round boss that is drilled and tapped for the screw is likely
too high and may already stick a bit too far out from center to clear the inside wall of the shroud it goes into. this may be true of the top of the boss too. You need to remove the set screw and take a small, nice sharp file and staying away from the ends and the O-ring fitted into the outside of the ends file down the center of the top of the rib in the center area and the top of the boss as well. When you install the sleeves on the barrel use the no marr grub screws and be sure they aren't too long . DO NOT OVER TiGHTEN
THESE SCREWS it will push the barrel off center and bulge out the top of the boss.
That's it. You get one sleeve on the gun. Buy one or two more from Air Venturi, even three. Space them out carefully. Do not position a barrel band on or too close to the end of a moderato that has a close fitting bore the barrel fits in. That done Harmonics, POI shift, Misalignment from bumping the barrel or air tube. The Barrel is stiff, straight, and solidly affixed. Likely a bit quieter. And this is all low cost, no machining and low weight. These sleeves allow freeier air movement in the shroud then any other sleeves or baffles' I've seen. Enough requests for the needed part and AV will likely make them available.
