I was skeptical to try hand pumping my Condor couple days ago. I thought it would be a chore but since I know my sweet spot is from 2500-1800 I figured I’ll try since everyone was sleeping at 6am and I was already up. Well, it wasn’t that bad. Pumping only took 150 ish strokes which is quite reasonable. I have a compressor and tank but I do a lot of hand pumping inside the house because it’s quiet compared to running the compressor and I always like to not waste my tank air just in case an outing comes up so hand pumping is always practiced. I have tried pumping from 1500-3000 but that is pointless for this gun. Took about 300 pumps and lots of cool down breaks. Plus I save wear and tear on my expensive fill equipment hand pumping. Anyway this forum
Is my only outlet For airguns so I post random things like this that’s on my mind. hope everyone is doing well.

Mike, thanks for the encouragement. I have a pump that I've never even tried out because I like to use dry filtered air from the dive shop.
I just may give it a try.

I say try it and save the tank
Air since it takes time to get to the dive shop. Yeah I just pump 50 strokes then let the air out to get the moisture out then I continue pumping another 50. Install an inline moisture trap from Air Venturi works good. Try it and see, and if it’s too much of a hassle to pump just use your cylinder.

2500psi is easy pumping too, there's a lot of difference when you get to 3600psi.

Totally agree. I stick to guns with max 3000 fill for the ease of filling. I had a Leshiy classic I pumped to 300
Bar by hand couple times all I can say is wow it was a work out and literally obliterated my hand pump. I just returned the Leahiy and now just stick to 3k fill max guns. My equipment thanks me for that:) actually I do have a 232 bar fill gun but it only needs 200 bar for best results.

Mike, that is smart air usage! I used to pump all my PCP’s but have a tank (am exactly 1 mile from Joe B’s for fill) and compressor now like you. Pumping is not too strenuous if done correctly and slowly and is good cardio! LOL!

Yeah if I lived that close to Joe I don’t think I’d have a compressor like I do. I’m in Pasadena and my local dive shops don’t even charge over 3k. Anyway , it’s nice to be self reliant.

I also agree the exercise involved in hand filling a Condor is not too bad, i enjoyed it, but it was starting to get rough on my wrist joints or tendons or something in there... especially when i switched to a higher pressure bottle.
And agreed that refilling to 3000 is not that bad. Getting up to 4000 is much harder on me and the pumps.

I purchased one of those generic Spritech portable compressors mainly for back up...but yeah, having Joe so close is a wonderful blessing for sure, great guy too! And I still have 3 hand pumps! LOL!

Kudos for hand pumping Mike! I hand pumped for years until I got my trail charger. The primary reason I still hand pump from time to time is due to its quietness as well. Keep on pumpin!

Well 150 strokes took my Condor from 1500 to 2300; yeah I did break a sweat. I think I'll try for 2600. So, 60 more?
Hunter
-
Yep, same as you, about 5 PSI per stroke on a 490cc bottle.

Oops might have been off on my count slightly but it’s not too terrible considering I don’t plink with a cannon

Never mind looks like we’re about right on with the count at 5 psi per stroke. I never passed math class :)

I continued to 250 pump strokes and ended with 2700 PSI.
Yeah CARDIO is just what I need at 70 years of age. 🏋♂️🤪

:) now you can say you tried:)

I used to hand pump for years. I have found that some hand pumps create more volume than others. The bundled pump that came with my hatsan flash pup beats my hill and fx stage 3. The fx is in a slight second.
-
Back when I got into PCP, I bought a Sam Yang Recluse 500cc, then shortly after an Airforce Escape, 250 cc ? Hand pumped them both for a couple years, then the Bargain gate quickly added more PCPs to my heard. I have not touched a hand pump since getting my Shoe Box and also a Spark like compressor as my mobile backup. ;D
I get my cardio while working or hunting ;)

It’s funny you mention that. I had a hill mk4 which was a total POS ended up returning it since it was sent in multiple times to AV for warranty repair. They were awesome enough to take it back and refund fully even after one year. I now have been using my G7 which works perfect. I have another g7 brand new in a box for backup just in case the zombies arrive again. With hand pumps it’s a hit or miss I think.

Hey fellow air gunner. I love reading how everybody does their air. At the end of the day there’s no right or wrong. It’s all
About what works for you. Thank you for sharing.

I'm a big guy at 6'1 250lbs. Hand pumping to 3000 psi is a piece of cake to me. I'll probably get a compressor one day, but I don't really see a need yet.

Heck yeah same here. Being a big dude helps definitely with hand pumping I agree. I have a Nomad 2 which helps a lot. Other night I degassed my Gauntlet to do some trigger adjustment took 5 minutes with the compressor from 0. I would’ve definitely sweated my butt off at midnight trying to pump 200 plus strokes. But for topping off most of the time I hand pump it’s more convenient then setting up the compressor and making noise even though the Nomad isn’t that loud.

I helps that every pcp I own is hand pump friendly and most of them hit their sweet spot somewhere below 3000 psi too.
I will say that I like the thought of a TalonP in .25 and I'll probably end up with one at some point.

Yes I agree on having guns that have sweet spots helps with hand pumping. I have a talon P .25 and the sweet spot on PW5 is 2300-1700. Gets 49 foot pounds and 11 shots in the sweet spot with JSB MK2 34 grain pellets. I can ride the curve backyard shooting I get about 30 shots with not much noticeable change in POI. Get the carbine with the moderator and stock because even with the mod it’s still kinda barky(that’s probably not a word). I have a giant moderator on order from DFL that I’m going to swap between the Talon P and the Condor. I also have a very tame Talon Ss .22 which is a joy to shoot. Gets who knows how many shots on pw4 shooting in my backyard and produces about 18 foot pounds. Get one you’ll be very impressed. Talon P is super easy hand pumping keeping it in the sweet spot. Slightly more work 1500-3000
But not too bad. I actually hand pumped the initial fill and it was like 200 some
Odd strokes.

Barky is a word, but pertains to trees. I would say it's perfect when adapted to airgun vernacular.

Darn I was going to contact Meriam Webster to add a new word describing loud.
-
Barky also describes my dog.

We have 2 yippers, one that's more thunderous, and one that's slightly barky. ;D

Mike, I decided to have some fun with my (freshly pumped) Condor. I may just start another thread.

Have fun!! And be safe of course. What’s the sweet spot on yours ?

I did have the rifle characterized with the standard top hat, but I now have a Talon Tunes top 🎩 hat installed so I'm sure that it will be more power.
I must start from scratch to characterize the current setup.
