Title: AA air leak or normal
Post by: Bonzi on May 29, 2021, 03:17:49 PM
Hey folks,

I have a AA S500 I bought new. When shooting it I can feel air hit my face. I assumed it was the barrel o-ring and proceeded to change it with out much thought. The old o-ring looked fine and the new one did not resolve the problem. So I shot it with my finger over the holes at the bottom of the shroud and over the probe where it enters the breach, both places exhaust air when the rifle is fired. I can speculate the air from the shroud holes could be normal but I wouldn't think there should be a puff of air coming from the probe.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and knows what I should do about it.

thanks

Patrick, have you shot it over a chrony? Since you replaced the probe o’ring and had the same thing happen I would see it is shooting the speeds it is should be at. I’m sure someone with AA experience will chime in soon.

I can do that for sure, but I don't have any base line for this rifle yet, and that's further complicated by the TP adjuster, meaning Im not sure where that should be at yet.

So you think the air discharge around the probe at the breech might be normal?

Thanks

Don’t know if that is “normal” as it might be coming from the shroud (vent holes maybe) or is it a naked barrel? You can look up what the fps should be and go from there.

I've got a 20 year old unshrouded S410. A shrouded S500 and a shrouded w/ QTec S510 in a Bullpup stock.

Never been hit in the face with air from any of them.

ps. I'm really loving the new .22 S510 and the Bullpup form factor. Got a starling at 45 yards and 30 seconds later another one at 69 yards today...

When I've had a puff of air hit my face it's been from a leaking transfer port, try feeling for air coming out between the breech and airtube.

Umm, transfer port leak.....makes since, could be since I feel air at probe and base of shroud. I will "feel" test again to see if specifically coming from where you spoke.

Any one have a link to disassembly video?

Set the power wheel at a Radom position and shot this string.....
Shot count: 36 (8 shots not recorded so 44 shots) First time using the new FX radar attached to the barrel, not sure why it missed shots.

That’s a wonderful shot string even with a puff of air! LOL! Hope you find the leaking culprit and see how much tighter your ES is capable of. Very nice AA.
