Title: .177 Gauntlet pellet probe o rings
Post by: EPG8 on May 28, 2021, 07:13:56 PM
Hoping someone knows the correct size and where to purchase these o rings for .177 Gauntlet pellet probe. I know Captain O Ring sells the rebuild kits, but I was hoping to find a source to buy a bunch of just the pellet probe o rings.

In the nomenclature for metric O-rings, the size is an M1.52 x 1.42.  Which is an absurd nonstandard size.

Also note FKM (Viton) is not a particularly good material for a bolt O-ring in terms of abrasion and tear resistance.  Better off using polyurethane or Buna-N.  The closest standard size is M1.5 x 1.5, and fortunately it is so similar as to be practically identical.  A difference of just 3 thousandths of an inch on the ID and less than a thousandth on the cross-section.

When mine tore up on my .177 Gauntlet, I used Buna 70 003's. You have to lube them with a little silicone, and carefully slide them over the probe. I broke two of them at first, but figured out they needed to be lubed first then it was easy peezy. Mine seal good and so far haven't tore up.

I ordered mine last night from www.theoringstore.com (http://www.theoringstore.com) .  You'll pay more for shipping than you will for o-rings.

The QB78 diagram I saw was extremely similar, if not exactly the same, as the one above.  I ordered the polyurethane 70 003s.  Fingers crossed.
