Title: FWB 124 Trigger
Post by: Bad News Beeman on May 21, 2021, 01:48:21 PM
Hi all,

I recently lucked upon a FWB 124D that needed rebuilding. In doing so, I unfortunately damaged the aluminum trigger during reassembly when improper alignment caused the compression tube to bite into it, causing a pretty nasty deep nick on one side at the very top of the trigger just below the housing unit. Doesn't appear that this compromises function, but I fear that a crack may develop over time and repeated use.

Where could I find a replacement? Locating an OEM part is probably out of the question, but I know that there have been aftermarket pieces put out there that are made of even better materials like stainless steel. The question is where does one find these nowadays. ARH stopped making his unfortunately, and the only alternative I could readily locate is available through PA which seems ridiculously overpriced at $120. Outside that though, are there any other options for sourcing these triggers? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Pricy,  I am thinking about picking one up to have on hand.

For the time being, a drop or two of cyano glue or nail polish harder may add back some lost material. Luckily, the Sporter trigger doesn't require a heavy pull so mechanically speaking this may be a non issue with you.

As long as it doesn't affect function it's probably ok.  If you are worried about a crack forming, polish the nick/gouge so that the bottom of the nick is smooth/rounded rather than "sharp".  Sharp points are where cracks can form.

I seriously doubt that the trigger is going to crack under normal use. What's it got 2-3 lbs of pressure on it? Most triggers on cr@p guns have over 6 lbs of pressure and they are made of plastic. Don't sweat the nick in a metal one. Use it and forget it's there. Or fill it with JB weld and be done with it.

It will be fine.

Otherwise buck up for the stainless one. And the stainless one that Pyramyd sells is the one from Jim Maccari.

Just be glad it wasn't the plastic version or it would have definitely sheared off!

Thanks for the words of encouragement and suggestions fellas. Appreciate all the good recommendations. Heart of hearts, I agree that the damage is not so bad that it would snowball into anything worse.

Guess my biggest hang up is that I finally landed a grail gun and while trying to bring it back to life I go and muck it up...which I feel plenty silly for. It is what it is though, and that alone probably doesn't justify going out of my way to find a replacement part in an attempt to make amends. Perhaps a dab of JB Weld is the simplest, and most appropriate fix.

Truth be told though, what was FWB thinking when they built these guns? Aluminum is a fine material, but the original plastic triggers??? And the rear sight too...

They were thinking cheap.

Same with the flimsy breech lockup, vague safety, and plastic triggers.

I can't believe what people pay for these guns, considering how flimsy they are built.
