Title: Carbon Fiber Accessories For FX Impact?
Post by: Bodacious on May 08, 2021, 12:46:26 PM
Looking to change up the look of my all black MK3.
Would like to change out the shroud and cheek rest with a carbon fiber look.

I know "wrap"..... but not sure if the cheek rest will accept the vinyl wrap paper. Seems there was a guy on Airgun Nation that was selling the cheek pads but looks like he no longer does.

Thanks for any suggestions!

In my experience good vinyl it will stick to most surfaces and is quite durable, I've used it in lots of different applications and as long as it's high quality it holds up fine for years.  Whatever you do don't cheap out on it though, the cheap stuff is super thin and tears easily, bubbles don't release right and tend to burst through the vinyl if you try and smooth it.

I find 3M is the best brand of vinyl and will hold up to a decent amount of abuse, I've wrapped electronics and car parts in it for years and it's generally more durable than paint.  My laptop has had a vinyl skin I put on it four years ago and it looks the same as the day I applied it despite being carried in a bag with other items a lot of the time.  I had my hand brake wrapped in carbon fiber vinyl for around two years and it got used multiple times a day with no issue.  It holds up fine on exterior trim pieces too so water shouldn't be an issue for it.

Just make sure to clean the part and apply it carefully, it's best if you can take the piece off and wrap the vinyl around until the seam is somewhere hidden.  A heat gun or hair dryer helps a lot, if you heat it up it gets soft and you can stretch it over the object you're applying it to, that way it will conform to all the curves and bends without any creasing.  Finally make sure you're careful when trimming it after it's applied so you don't scratch up the surface underneath, if the seams are hidden any scratches should be hidden too but it's still nice not to mar up the finish if you ever take the vinyl off.  Get a decent size roll and if you mess up you can just peal it off and start over.

In my opinion the only reason to go with legit carbon fiber is if you want to make something lighter or stronger otherwise it isn't worth it, like a full carbon fiber stock would be awesome but probably cost as much as the rifle itself.

Put this on my Marauder a couple of years ago, bought it off eBay. May still have the vendor information with the remnant in my garage.

I ordered the best 3M air release vinyl that i believe is available? Will post up some pictures in a week or so if it turns out satisfactory.

I use the Mossy Oak shotgun wrap on my hunting guns.  I did my Maverick in it, and it is definitely good stuff.  It is 3M vinyl ;)

Decided to wrap the moderator, cheek rest, air tank, center leg section of the bipod, and the front bell of my scope.
Hope I didn't over do it.

Thanks everyone!
The Vortex logo on the cheek rest is just a decal.

All my carbon disappeared :D  The good thing about the camo is, mistakes don't really matter much.
