bit of an overkill with this. I was just checking my zero after getting the Orion cam dialed in and having to readjust my dopes for distance. happened to spot this chipmunk way on top of a bush. took aim, thump...hmm missed some how just barely. you can hear the round connect with something, oh well aim. thump and other down range. crack POW. didn't miss that one.
I say overkill, because its a 37.4 gr hp and leaving the muzzle at just over 70 FPE. shot was around 65 yards.

Dan, excellent shot and video! LOL...that first shot didn’t miss by much and that second shot blew it into next week! Clear video! And, wonderful tune with those slugs, great power you can hear upon impact (no pun intended 😉)!

There is no such thing as overkill when you make such a nobly humane kill shot. Bravo!
(and ear plugs seem recommended for that sound of impact!)

Thanks guys. I was happy. Been fighting a bit of inconsistency with my last batch of casting the slugs. Some seem to hit dead on then I get a drifter or two and back on again. I think I’m getting closer with things. I know I was surprised when the first shot just missed. But you can see it certainly shocked him. It was a small male. Took a bit to find him in the brush there.

Great video and pest dispatch, Dan! It does look to me like you touched him with the first shot in some way. Like the smackdown sound, too. Very humane.

The bullet sound is actual connection of the .249-39-rf hp. This slug makes a heck of a pop when it connects.

I’ll have to re-edit the video and try to slow down the first shot as well to see what happened there.

Can't say I've seen fur fly off a kill like feathers off a bird before; that was impressive.
And I can understand the twig problem too--I have had it happen multiple times this week. So much so--one particular squirrel got lucky three times yesterday--I was wondering if it was me or the gun or what, but coincidentally, a late afternoon chipmunk at 30 yds established there was nothing wrong at the gun end of things ;)

I know what you mean. Semi-dried tangerines explode at 75 making the same loud pop using pure lead to cast at same power.

Awesome shot!!!
I've taken chippers with everything from bb's to .25 cal pellets (excluding PB's), but those slugs are impressive. It doesn't take much to take them down. Then again, there's no such thing as overkill for chippers in my opinion, as long as the area is clear behind them. Great job.
