Title: Broken spring repair
Post by: Oldgringo on April 25, 2021, 03:09:12 PM
I'm pretty sure my peepsighted HW30S has a broken spring.  I can hear a rattle when the cocking arm is open plus it won't hit the side of a barn at a very slow speed, as reported earlier.

When the piston seal arrives, I'll take her down and do what's necessary.  Assuming there is a broken spring, how do I get the top hat and guide off of an ARH spring and put them on another spring?

Some spring kits have guides sized for a tight fit in the spring supplied with the kit. I really don't know an existing guide will properly fit another spring, even the same brand due to variations of the ID.

Anywhoo....to remove a tight fitting guide from a spring I grip the spring and twist the guide flange opposite the spring twist while pulling the guide.

Thanks Ed.

It may not be the spring but something is definitely loose/broke up by the top hat.  If worse comes to worse, I have three original 30S/R7 springs.

Geengo,
I've yet to mail your piston seal (gotta wait until Monday), I know I have an extra OEM HW30 spring if you want it.  Maybe 100 shots on it. PM me ... if interested.
