can some one who has this pot tell me how big the support rods are in diameter? I'm trying to make a mold shelf and my pot isn't due to arrive till tomorrow and I'm trying to get this ready for it.
-
Is it possibly the same as the smaller 5 pound pot? If so I can measure what you need when I go see my dad this weekend.
-
I put the question out on a casting group I'm in. I should have an answer soon. I've got 2 10 pound pots, no 20.
-
The answer I got was .250-.251

ty Eddie. Much appreciated.

No problem. What design are you going with?

Yt search for diy mold guide for lee 4-20 casting pot by James pollard. Mine is going to be an off shoot of this one. All my noe molds have rg pins and my mold guide is going to be on the right side versus his left side. I used 1/4” aluminum plate for mine. My guide is a small piece of oak to keep mold from dragging across the shelf. I’ll get some pics of it when I get it completed and all together. Probably have to make a new mold preheat plate/cover as well.

That's funny, James is a good friend of mine and one of the ones that responded when I asked for the diameter of the support rod.

I purchased a NOE pot guide for the LEE 4-20 pot and with a little mod it works great.
The NOE mold bottom pin guides caused a little problem but reversing the handles
solved it.

yea, i had seen that one for the noe guide. the bottom pin molds was a reason i didnt go with it. it would need work and i could just as easily make one. Granted doing things by hand wont get the laser straight lines and what not, but functional is good enough and ease of adjustment as well.

Got my pot all together and running. Had to do some tweaks. The handle constantly wanted to stick and not be smooth. May open the holes just a touch. I put some 2 cycle oil on a q tip and lubed the handle screws, that seemed to help and a few attempts to get the guide screws angled and into better alignment.
Was gonna put my thermocouple inside underneath, only to find my particular k type is crimped and can’t be taken apart to pull the ss tube off. So just stuck it in the pot for now.
My shelf worked ok. Needs to be tweaked a bit more as I couldn’t get it to shift far enough right to give better mold support. Needs to have the holes move a bit more left and all should be good.
Did two auto tune cycles and things seem to run much smoother than my 10# pro pot did. Now I really can’t wait to get my replacement hunter magnum 34 gr mold.

I have and use the NOE guide plate for my Lee 4-20 as well. I use a piece of thin aluminum (a piece of siding trim) between the guide and the mold. This makes sliding the mold very easy as the added plate slides with the mold.
