Title: Gamo Urban shot string
Post by: cbourbeau32 on March 20, 2021, 06:39:20 PM
I bought a 25 caliber maurader so my urban is now my plinking and smaller pest control rifle. I decided to back out the hammer spring tension until I got about 700 fps. The attached picture shows 40 shots starting at 2,700 psi and ending at 1,000 psi. I think this gun very efficient to have such a small air cylinder. Hopefully soon I can get around to shooting 40 shots with the same starting/ending psi to see how far out I can take my shots before the velocity variation begins to affect accuracy. I will post those results when I get them.

Urban does really really well for a non-regulated rifle  when tuned down...to what would be “urban” or ”subrban” use.  But a 4% velocity variation….that string would be more like shot #7 to shot #38 if you want to be picky…for 105cc’s of unregulated air, that’s pretty darn good

As one buddy told me:

“if you got more than 30 critters in your back yard that need shooting all at one time….you really should think about moving more than a longer shot count.”

Good string, these rifles do not get the respect they deserve.   Easily adjusted up and down with hammer spring and air pressure start-to-stop range.

I love my urban, great first gun! I can almost eek out 40 usable shots, but easier to tune for 30 good shot (3 mags), for me. The infamous barrel band was an issue for me, so away it went.

I always like reading about the Urban, this thread made me want to get back to shooting a little farther than I have been lately. Ive mostly been using the Urban for the casual matches here on the forum, which have been limited to 10 meters for the winter. Below is a good idea of what mine normally does at 30 yards. It’s set up to shoot Crosman Premier domes at 800fps, the groups are 5 shots each, starting on the right and moving left. The first 2 groups are Crosman domes, the next 2 are AA16 grain. The POI is off because the scope is set up for 10meter shooting, but the group size is consistently under 3/8 ctc. Starting pressure is 2500psi, finishing at a little under 1500psi.

I love my Gamo Urban too.
It has seen set to shoot 60-70 shots in the 600-650 fps range.
At those speeds it is accurate (shooting reactive targets) at 35-45 yards.

The only thing about the Urban that I do not like is that is quiet but not quiet enough for my backyard.
And the Urban moderator is glued to the barrel, and nothing can be done about that.
Whoever decided to glue the moderator to the barrel (a lawyer likely) deserves to have the Urban shot next to his ear for 1 hour each day for the rest of his life.
I would have added an external LDC if there was an option to do that.

BSA and GAMO should read about the moderators laws in USA.
The laws apply to firearms not air guns.
There are no federal laws for sound suppressors applied to air guns (only firearms).

Edited last statement out... let's respect our fellow airgunners.

Really? Ive found the Urban set below 700fps to be extremely quiet. If the Urban at 600fps is too loud for your neighborhood, I can’t imagine ANY airgun that would ok.

If you’d like to make your Urban a little more quiet, try reaching out to ‘Mr3D’ here on the forum. He made me a printed baffle that replaces the stock baffle in my Urban. It’s a little more quiet, and it fixed a clipping problem that was starting to develop in my gun.

Unfortunately with the Gamo Urban non removable LDC you cannot add your own LDC.

Right, but at the front of the silencer there are 2 pins, if you push those out, you can remove the guts or baffle of the silencer. Mr3Ds part would replace the stock guts.

Below is a pic of the stock baffles and end cap removed from the Urban.

The houses in my neighborhood are 15-20 feet apart from each other.
So, even the Urban at 600-650 FPS is a little too loud, especially since it is not particularly quiet.
I can shoot air guns with better sound suppression at about the same FPS (< 700).

I will try to replay the original baffles with a different set of baffles.
