When I got home tonight from work I had a nice little package from Crosman waiting for me at my door step. My 20" Mrod barrel! *Yay* My Prod now has the Mrod barrel installed. Installing it was a piece of cake. Instead of using the Prod's shroud I used a 7.5 TKO break for it. The TKO works better in my opinion. Anyways its late, no light so I cant really test the barrel out tonight. But I will keep everyone posted.
Night,
Matt

Looks good, MATT. Are you busy Thur. or Friday? Time to shoot-got my carbine yesterday, so 2 more shooters
-
Cool,......Will Piatt is getting a Rifle barrel on mine, can't wait to get her back :)
-
That looks like a killer sniper setup. I can't wait to see what the fps gain amounts to. Sweet upgrade.
-
That is exactly what I want to build or buy. Can you list all of the mods you have done, or did you have a thread started I missed. Thanks
Dave
-
Nice.......
-
If I had to guess I 'd say around 750-760fps with 14.x at full-power, if it's a .22.
I love the "AR6" look you guys have on your Prods :) Ok, so we are still waiting for the test/chrony results(?) :D

I got the Prod, Stock adapter from the guy who makes E-TACS, Discovery hammer spring ( For now I ordered a heavier hammer spring from a fella on this forum ) Marauder rifle barrel.. that's about it. I went back to the default air transport tube.

With a .120 air transfer tube I was getting high 800s when I went back to the default one I was getting 740 range. I'll explain more.
-
I got this thing shooting pretty good for now. According the manual a 3000 PSI fill up requires both the hammer tension and throw to be at max. So 7 for hammer tension clockwise and 12 for the tension counter clockwise.
I did that with a .132 transfer port I was getting high 800s for my FPS but only 8 shots (3000 down to 21000 PSI ) I did not like that since I only use my hand pump.. I have a borrowed tank but that's just for filling up tanks that are empty.
Switched back to the default transfer port which is .80. Now from the same fill pressure of 3000 I got 710 FPS each shot the FPS is climbing a little as expected in this weird gun. I got 16 shots ( 3000 down to 22000 PSI ) my FPS towards 2000 PSI was around 740 FPS.
No matter what I do the FPS always climbs at 2000 PSI. I could get another 8 shots in that will be in the high 700 FPS range.
I just ordered a different hammer spring that I have in my Discovery, it's quite heavy so that might help out. I also ordered a HDD from AoA it replaces the hammer pin and reduces wasted air between shots. On average you'll get 40% increase on consistency and PSI usage per shot. That will get here Thursday, should be interesting.
Anyways, this little gun is grouping quite well with the Marauder barrel. I was happy that I did not get a crappy barrel from Crosman. With Crosman Premiers I group dime size at 20 yards. I tried out JSB 18 grain pellets and got a quarter sized group.
At my current set up I am sighted in at 20 yards, 1 mil hold at 50 yards 2 mil hold at 65 yards and 4 mil hold at 80 yards. 80 yards is my max range in my yard.
I hope that I can get a more consistent shot string with more tweaking of the settings.. it's frustrating but I'll get it down eventually.
Now to fill my gun back up and go relax!
-Matt
-
That looks so awesome
Could you swap a mrod airtank onto the prod ? Guess that would make a mprod
-
I thought you could.. but turns out you cant. The breach on the Prod have 4 set screws and the Mrod has 2 set screws.. so I doubt you can. You'd have to get the air tube, the hammer, fill nipple everything to go that way.
-
Oh ok just an idea but I guess one would end buying everything off a mrod cept for the trigger assy and stock..
Still high 7's to low 8's for fps is plenty good for small to medium sized game hunting
-
Man that's sweet. So the Mrod barrel is a drop-in fit? I take it the Mrod's shroud is not compatible with the P-rod. Please let us know how it performs for you after you install the new parts. Nice work. ;)

darryl
Yep drop in fit, made me happy did not have to mess with anything. I did not order the Mrods shroud.. I think it's a little more larger in diameter than the Prods shroud.. don't quote me on that but I think I read that somewhere. If true then it would not fit properly with the Prods barrel band. My TKO 7.5 muzzle break is doing a better job than the original shroud and Jim Gaska extension combined! My HDD from AoA gets here Thursday.. lucky me I have to work in the morning when the mail usually comes :(
-Matt
-
One thing I'd like to consider is the efficiency of the longer barrel insofar as using the air pressure, and seeing higher FPS. I seem to recall reading somewhere that the P-rod is a bet less efficient because of it's barrel length. That was familiar to me because at one time I owned a Crosman 2240, and read a lot about how a longer barrel yielded higher FPS because it allowed the CO2 to expand more over the length of a longer barrel versus the OEM 7-inch barrel. Air has different properties versus CO2, but maybe it has to do with dwell time giving the air pressure more time to push the pellet to a higher speed before it exits the (longer) barrel? So maybe the properties of air under pressure benefit more from being able to expand most efficiently thought the pistol's TP at the lower pressure? How many shots are you getting?
-
In a PCP, unless it is set for very low power.... a longer barrel will always give more velocity and efficient use of the air.... The more powerful the gun, the more effect a longer barrel will have....
Bob
-
Just to ask for confirmation, will the Mrod shroud work with the P-rod if the pistol has an Mrod barrel? I'm also asking this question over on the Marauder forum. I guess I could call Crosman.
darryl
-
Not sure, I don't know if they are the same diameter. Maybe someone here that has both will chime in. I would assume that they were the same.
-Matt
-
The Mrod shroud has a larger O.D. than the Prod. You would need a riser block on the Prod breech for it to work. Eyeballing mine, I'd say that it's about 3/16" larger.
-
thanks RR. I was sitting here compiling a list of parts; all the while knowing I'd ask Crosman if the shroud would fit before I placed the order. I'd say I'd need more than that rise block to make the shroud fit and the pistol work.
darryl
edit: dummy me forgot that DK said the Mrod shroud was too big. but at least I ordered the barrel today. Ought to make the P worth a little bit more if I sell it, but I want to see how it shoots with the extra 8 inches. Careful. this is a family channel! ;D

What Rat Racer says
-
I got the HDD today, I am pleased with it. Very simple to install.. I get 1 extra mag to fills now. My FPS was more consistent as well. I was not expecting much for the Prod model HDD but I have heard the Mrod HDD works wonders. Well worth the extra $.

I got my Prod on Wed and the HDD arrived today. Boy its allot smaller than I had realized (the HDD that is). Tomorrow I want to order the Discovery hammer spring and I have the TKO Pistol Brake set for his next production run. Thanks Matt for all the pointers.
I have yet to run it across the Chrony so far but notice a big drop in the first 8 shots (2900psi - 2200psi) then a much more restrained release of gas in the next 16 shots. I suspect I will have fun setting this up with FPS/Air conservation, I'm guessing its possible with stock length barrel to get 32 shots ( I could live with 24 ) +700fps with + 14g pellets? That should make a nice little yard gun for ground nutters.
Mark
-
I get 24 shots from 3000 psi down to 1900 psi. One more magazine after that brings me down to 1500 psi. My FPS is all in the 700s range.
-
where to get this HDD for the P-rod? How is the barrel working out? What was the FPS before the new barrel and the HDD? Is the barrel delivering the accuracy you want? inquiring minds want to know. ;)

From AoA as stated from RatRacer. The barrel is still breaking in. But I can achieve dime sized groups at 20 yards with Crosman Premiers. I have no problems hitting my targets I have set up at 80 yards. I need to do a 50 yard target and see what I get. The FPS has been around the same because I set it up to shoot 700 FPS.. I can't really make it any higher without using a different port size. .80 (default is giving me 710 to 760 max fps ) .120 gave me 850 fps.. this is of course with the settings to allow 3000 psi fill ups.
Over all I am very happy with all the mods that I have done to this gun. I have tomorrow off I need to re sight in due to me taking the gun apart yet again. But I will attempt a 50 yard group.. I am predicting 1 inch to 1.5 inches. Which is not bad.. but could be better.
I say go for it man.. Mrod barrel, HDD, Disco spring.. makes a big difference.
-
Here is my target from the other day at 20 yards. The left side is Crosman Premiers. First 2 shots high were me trying to get the elevation in check.. the other 6 shots are the group with one flyer.. or my bad shooting? Those 6 shots can be covered by a dime. Now to the Right those were jsb 18 grain pellets.. I guessed to where I thought I would hit so the first shot way up is just not accurate. the 7 shots below are the group.. they are alright. My Mrod did not like JSB pellets either. As the barrel breaks in I expect these groups to shrink a little. Over all I am pleased.

DK, thank you for this post, man. It's a really neat thing you're doing for the P-rod. I hope to follow along. A side note: because I'm interested in using the stock shroud, I'm looking to have an extension made that will cover the distance from the end of the P-rod's shroud back to the breech block. That, plus I will order an additional baffle, the HDD, and the Disco spring per your lead.
-
My M-rod barrel arrived today. It installed OK, but the notched area for the shroud mount's retaining screw is not in the location as it is on the P-rod's barrel. Since I intend to fully shroud this barrel, I'll need to file that retaining screw down a bit so the shroud threads can clear it. The barrel is really free-floating now. ;) I can't get the old barrel spacer off the old barrel. Am I supposed to heat it up or something? I'd like to use it, but no need in destroying it in trying to get it off. Good thing I have one on order. Preliminary testing shows that two of the three magazines I own need to be persuaded to cooperate with pushing the bolt through. Accuracy is a bit off compared to the P-rod's barrel; slightly wider groups at <ten yards. Haven't tried my 30 yard range yet. But it looks good and that's all that counts! ;D j/k
darryl
-
Glad to see you got your barrel! Got any pics? Mine is sitting around for now.. I might turn the power down to 12ftlbs since I got my Marauder coming.. That will get here Saturday.. and my bad luck continues.. DOUBLE SHIFT!! :( 10am to 11pm.. rage! I should call out. ;p
Good luck, remember to clean that barrel out really good and if you used any fluids shoot at least 30 shots before the barrel sets in again. I just run dry patches through now. No need for a bore cleaner after I gave it a good cleaning from the start.
Matt
-
I got the spacer off. A tip from Mark on the Yellow: slide a box-end wrench over it and tap it off. Came off in seconds. I thought it was glued on or something at first. It's now on the new barrel
No pics yet. Soon. Yep, gave it is a good cleaning. Now to get that shroud spacer made. (hellooooooooo Jim Gaska!)

the first one shows the comparative length of the barrels (the P-rod barrel is placed in approximately the position where it would be secured in the breech.
the next photos shows how much space there is between the shroud and the breech, 8".

Looking good my friend.
Matt
-
thanks Matt,
I've contacted Jim Gaska to make the shroud spacer needed to fully cover the barrel. Meanwhile I've lost the fill cap somewhere, and have retraced my steps many times. >:( Maybe it fell out of my pocket while I was at the liquor store? ??? Just goes to show, it's always something.
Meanwhile I put s few shots through it with no shroud on it and the accuracy is a bit off from the P-rod (used JSB Jumb0 15.9grain, 5.53mm in both barrels). I'm thinking the accuracy will improve once I install the shroud along with the additional barrel spacer. Now to continue the search for that fill cap!
-
OK, I found the fill cap. It's accurate to say it was under the last place I looked. I took some shots at 30 yards today, and the accuracy is not there. I've gone through several magazines now, so maybe it's time for a good cleaning. At 9.5 yards the accuracy is quite good, though.
Also, need a little science here. How does the longer barrel make the P-rod louder? As you can see in the one picture, the shroud is on. I would have thought the longer barrel might have meant a pressure drop at the muzzle, and so lower sound. Maybe once I get the barrel fully shrouded maybe I'll see a difference. I'm just not sure. I think I'll have to remove the barrel to get that extra barrel spacer on too. I can't get it any further on than the original, and I can't get that one on any further than it will go without me contemplating a serious beat-down on it. I hope the additional stiffness will aid accuracy once I clean the barrel. I'm also running into problems with the magazines now that I hadn't before. Cocking is not as thoughtlessly smooth as it was before the barrel swap. Maybe the new barrel is "off" somewhere? An interesting adventure, to say the least.

I just use a TKO discovery LDC on my Prod it works great! It's been a few days since I have shot my Prod.. my Mrod is here and up and running. Try to shoot some groups with out the shroud on.. if it shoots good then, then you know the problem.
Or it might be a bad barrel.. so option 2 is to get send the barrel back and get a new one. I am not too sure of Crosman's return policy.
-
I'm still waiting for the Disco hammer spring but did install the HDD & TKO LDC (For the PRod on the stock shroud). Both fit as they should and its just a "wuuff" noise now, much less noticeable. No "Ping" like my .177 Marauder rifle either, perhaps the heavier hammer spring will change that.

I've read that the folks that have swapped barrels in the Mrod have said that when doing so, the set the barrel with a mag in place. This allows for proper depth seating, fitment, and probably alignment too. Also check the inner barrel o-ring isn't jagged up in some way, as that will affect loading and accuracy.

That could be a big issue if you did not do that. That's what I had to do to make sure everything was good.
-
hi Guys,
I may try that technique, but here is what I've found with the barrel I got:
*the hole in the barrel that is supposed to align with the transfer port is off center lengthwise to the breech ( a bit forward of center with the screws tightened down)
*the barrel sits off center in the breech so that the bolt does not engage smoothly (rubs against the left side of the barrel as it enters) this causes the next BIG PROBLEM
*the magazines jam constantly because of the barrel being out of alignment with the breech. I've had to tap the magazines out many times, finding that I've sheared the heads off of pellets to get the magazines out.
When I manually load pellets all is fine for the most part. I've had to loosen the the bolts that lock the barrel in place to create just a bit of play to allow the bolt to slide in easily, and the magazines still jam. I wish I had researched this project a bit longer. I might have discovered what you guys are telling me here. It's not simply a drop-in replacement after all. My mistake for taking it at face value. :( Dk you're right. It is a big issue.
-
Hi RR,
Inner barrel O-ring? I accidentally destroyed that. I did not know it was there when I took a drill, and ...well never mind. That didn't anyway. But about having a magazine in place. when I think about how the barrel is ill fitting as I noted here earlier, I'm not sure I'd be successful in doing that. See, the mags seemed to fit fine. Not hard to insert at all. What I need is a fix for the bolt hitting the left side of the barrel as, I assume, the pellets are too. When everything is tightened up, the barrel is misaligned to the bolt. That is the critical failure, and explains to me why the accuracy is so off. The pellets are being deformed when/if the load. The left side of the pellet head is taking a beating. Now that I've dicked with the barrel there's no sending it back. No room in the breech block to shim the barrel to move it to the left, and so clear the bolt. Meanwhile the P is back to it's original barrel. :P
-
Thanks all for the tips, and encouragement. I've had the elusive success tonight. I got with Gary and Jay today and we went over everything about this barrel, including a good bore cleaning and polishing. I beveled the breech end of the barrel, then gave it a good polish; removed a burr from the inside of the port hole that Jay located (actually he and Gary worked on that burr more than I did- not much left for me to do. Jay had the same suggestion as I got here; put a magazine in place before installing the barrel. I believe the collective advice and efforts of Gary and Jay set the stage for a successful conclusion. I ran 8 magazines through the barrel without a hitch. Good accuracy too, even though I was tired from working on it. That can only improve once I'm fresh. I also tweaked the power a bit and got the P-rod pushing 15.9 grain JSB Jumbos at 634fps (earlier today with the standard P-rod barrel). A new Disco spring should help that out a little.
thank you all,
Darryl
-
Was a fun day for sure Darryl, really enjoyed how fast you can change the barrel's out on the Maruader gun's, an being able to see the instant improvement with just a bit of "detail" work on the barrel's, you do a bit more polishing on the longer barrel's breech end with the JB an it should be set to go(glad breaking the sharp edge's helped the feeding Bro.).
-
Glad you got it sorted Darryl. Enjoy you're next strings after a deflated remedy excursion. It helps to have confident and knowledgable friends to help solve Rubiks cube.;)
-
Jay, it was your (great) idea to bevel the breech end of the barrel. I think that was the trick that made the pellet loading feel so smooth, and very similar to what I was used to with the P-rod barrel. Maybe I'll bevel the P-rod barrel next. Of course a good polishing would be in order too. ;) BTW, thanks for the o-ring too. Otherwise I'd have had to wait on Crosman to process my order. Now I'll have spares for us.
RR, I'll cosign your statement. I've meet some good people here on the GTA, and have the pleasure of spending good quality shooting time with some of them. Hanging out with SW-Ohio crew is a great way to spend a day shooting and talking airguns.
I think my next test will be to try some of those RWS Superdomes ( a misnomer, imo; not much dome there) as they seemed more prone to jamming than the round-headed JSB Jumbos. If those cycle through OK,I'm in there! :D
-
OK, tried the RWS Superdomes. They load just fine. I've decided to fill only to 2500 PSI for now. That seems to be where the best accuracy begins @ 30 yards. Since I'll be going for a fully shrouded barrel, I asked Jim if he thought the shroud spacer he's making for me would also aid in quieting the gun down a bit more. He replied that it should since the volume of the shroud is increasing. I'd thought the longer barrel sounded louder to me before, but it doesn't seem like it now. Maybe when the spacer arrives I can do a before, and after test, and post it. Feeling pretty good about how things have turned out.
SO, is the Disco spring the way to go for better control of the air release?
-
Glad to see you are having some good things happen! I still need to detune mine down to 12 ft/lbs of energy. But if you are going for more power and higher fill pressures I'd go with the disco spring or an aftermarket spring that is even stronger.
-
Hi DK,
I think I want to try for another 100FPS. That should get me 19 FPE with the JSB Jumbo. How to do that is what I need learn. I also may want to do the ice-maker water line trick to free up the transfer port too. Lots to read about. The P-rod is only pushing 14FPE right now with those 15.9 grain Jumbos. I guess I'd be OK not going up to 19FPE. Not like I'm hunting ground hogs or racoons. I'd like to make a spinner spin at 30 yards. That might be a stretch.
-
It's interesting that you guys are having trouble getting up to the 20 FPE range with your PRods.... unless I've missed something along the way.... My 2260 based Grouse gun shoots 16 shots at 19-20 FPE starting from 2000 psi down to 1100 psi and it does that with only a 0.125" transfer port.... Lowest velocity is 674 fps and the highest is 709 with 18 gr. JSB Heavies, for a 5% variation, which is no problem as all my shots are within 40 yards max.... I'm using a Disco hammer spring, BTW....
I'm wondering if the PRod valve is restricted compared to the Disco valve?.... I have a .25 cal MRod valve here, and it has a SMALLER exhaust port than the Disco.... presumably because of the higher fill pressure.... Just something to look at, maybe?....
Bob
-
I can't find the link that I read, but I believe it said the valve port is .103.
-
The stock Disco valve port is 0.152", transfer port is 0.140" and barrel port is 0.134".... A typical "power tune" will increase the transfer port to 0.162-0.166" and the barrel port to 0.166-0.171".... and the valve port to 0.157-0.162" on a 20 degree angle with streamlined corners....
Bear in mind, this is for a 2000 psi gun, not a 3000 psi gun.... On a 3000 psi gun, ports that large may very well produce a very curved (and therefore short) shot string....
Bob
-
I drilled the port out to 0.0937 (3/32)". I'm still using the stock hammer spring (max-adjusted along with the hammer throw being maxed too). From what I've seen online, this configuration should yield me 16FPE with 14.3grain CPDs. I'm using JSB 15.9 grain pellets though. One magazine took the fill from 2700 down to 2150. Need to put it across a chronograph to know what it's really doing. I'll need to be pushing those pellets at 675FPS to get there. So basically I'm flying blind.
Bob, would the Disco spring be of any benefit if I only wanted 16FPE? Maybe provide a means of finer tuning? NO need to go 20FPE. Got a Pneuma to handle the heavy work. ;)
darryl
-
There are too many variables to be able to tell you if a Disco spring is necessary in a PRod.... and we'll never see them in Canada because of the shroud.... Rule of thumb.... if you can get more than 16 FPE with the spring you have.... then a heavier spring is not necessary.... The only exception would be if you want to increase the fill pressure and choke up the transfer port.... then you might need a stiffer spring....
Bob
-
thanks Bob,
don't want to go overboard beyond a set goal. If I don't need it,I won't add it, per the goal.
-
I go overboard on all my stuff! Mike of Citrus Airguns is going to be getting my Mrod in the mail pretty soon for a complete make over.. LW barrel, 30" airtube, tune, and more!
-
I can't spend too much money on the P-rod. Have to save for the next big thing. ;D Actually since I don't hunt, I don't need any more power than my Pneuma (Hatsan AT44-10) can deliver (once I get it back from UMAREX. It can't hit a ding-dong at 10 yards with a magazine in it; it's killer accurate when loaded manually, but I didn't buy it as a single-shot rifle). ;)
-
With all this stuff you guy's are doing with these P-Rods your makin me want one! but does anybody know if the bolt is switchable to the left side so us southpaws can use it correctly? have you guy's seen this? :P

yep, seen it. bookmarked it too. I'd like to see similar results posted on You Tube while using heavier pellets, and the Mrod barrel. If I had a chrony...well. I don't yet.

you can get a Chrony Alfa Master for P.A for about $125 I think thats what I paid for mine awhils back! very useful tool! :P

Mark, yes the P-rod is designed to be changed from a right hand bolt action to the left with very little fuss, just a simple changing of a bracket under/in the reciever(it just a piece that hold's/stop's the bolt).
-
good tip, Mark. Gotta save a few pennies. Looks like PA dropped the price a little.

Thank's J! :P
-
The rear shroud extension Jim Gaska is making for me should be here by late next week. I will try to do a before/afer video for sound comparison and also post some pictures. Out to look pretty neat.
-
Is Jim making airtube extensions for the Prod yet? My Mrod is on its way to sunny Florida for a tune.
-
Don't know about air tubes. I can ask him if you like.
-
darryl i need a tube exstension also, can you let me know if he has them. i have the shroud extension from jim it is sweet,i shoot multiple squirrels before they know whats going on. quieter than my 22 marauder thats depinged with shroud exstension and its quiet.
-
If you could ask that would be nice! I am working on my Disco project now. My prod is done for now I just need to tune the power settings then it will be complete.
-
Here's my disco, it's sporting a heavier hammer spring, 2nd barrel band, mrod trigger group, and a challenger trigger guard. I have a Katana stock and a Mellon bolt coming as well.
All packed up for tomorrows drill! Let the good times role..

Guys, I asked Jim about the air tubes. He told me he's ordering the materials and will be offering air tubes soon. Keep your eyes open.
Matt, that Disco looks great. "Why so serious?" It even looks like it'll put a hurt on something.

-
Sweet, the Prod needs a air tube extension big time.
My disco is spitting out 14 grain pellets at 840 fps @ 2400 psi, then all the way up to 860 2000-1200 psi. I think I might get a power adjuster as well.
Love these rifles. Fun to customize!
-
Matt, can you give me an update on the performance of your P-rod's performance? What pellet weight are you using to test with. Accuracy at X yards, shot counts?
thanks,
darryl
-
Here's my Prod. One hole at 35 yards all day every day. Very quiet and takes nutters out to 65 yards everytime I do my job.

-
JB, please describe your mods.Is that a custom breech? Taking nutters out to 65 yards is the best I've read about a P-rod so far. That's awesome!

The only mods are the stock and the extended shroud. It shot so well right out of the box I didn't want to touch it. It is one of the first 100.
-
it's 70% shooter, eh? ;) Works for me! :D

I have not touched my Prod setting wise, its still where I left off. I am getting dime sized groups @ 20 yards with Crosman Premier hollow point pellets. Shooting 710 fps @ 3k rises up to 750 @ 2k. I get 3 good magazines in at this current power level. I am thinking of turning it down a bit.. down to 600 @ 3k and see if it'll rise up to 650 or what ever at 2k should give me an extra 12 or so shots as well.

Are those tippman98 stocks all the same or are there differance in quailty, reason i,m asking is because the prices vary so much. Thanks.
-
They vary in quality.. I got one of those $40 ones.. not as wobbly as the lower priced ones.

The "You get what you pay for" adage applies with this one. Who wants to slap an $80 stock on a $60 airsoft.
-
I'm sure the Tippman I bought was at the lower end of the cost scale. It's OK, but it's cheek piece is bit of a wobbly goblin until you rest your face on it. Then it's fine. One day I'll buy a better one when I know what that means with these things. :D
-
Darryl, get one of the expensive ones that look like a Magpul stock.. they are rock solid and WAY better than the Tippmann one on my 1322.

How'd he get my wallet??!!! :o :o

No soup for you!!! :D (shroud adjuster needs a little adjustment)

Sweet! Winner, winner, chicken dinner.:)
Let me know how the sound is. Jim's gonna look at your barrel compared to a Mrod barrel due to your issues, possibly making me a Mrod length LW barrel in the .470 diameter.
-
I can still read that bottem address just thought you should know
-
thanks Mike. Now everyone knows where to send money! ;D I'll fix it.

Anyone remember the Colt Buntline Special? My Prod, with it's Mrod barrel now makes me think of that pistol. A link (page down to see a picture):

By the way the P-rod seems to be shooting just fine, if a little quieter (unless I'm imagining it). I really need to get that chronograph so I can see what the barrel and the drilled transfer port are up to. I even bought some H&N FTTs (5.52mm, 14.66 grain) pellets to feed it.
-
Once that barrel breaks in it's awesome! Glad to hear that it is shooting good!
-
a small update on the P-rod. I got tot do some chrony testing this weekend. Not much, but I hope it's indicative (I'm looking for a chrony now). The 10-shot string from 2600 psi with both settings to max:
lo= 716FPS
hi= 738FPS
Av= 728FPS
Es= 21.9
Sd= 7.8
Av_FPE = 17
I'm researching the Disco spring mod to see if that might be of use with the 0.093 TP. If not, I'm pretty much satisfied with it.
Here's a short video of how it sounds:

that sounds even quiter then my tko disco
-
Next time fill it up with air ;D Man thats quite.
-
happy! happy!! happy!!! I'm really happy (can you tell?) about how this little project turned out. ;D But as I said, I'll check out the Disco-spring mod.
BTW that's our member niclaw (Nick) in the video. I think this meet was his first time shooting PCPs. That (knock-down) shooter's bench was built for me by member Gary Hurley. He wants to post the plans here so guys can build their own. I took a video of him putting it together. Really simple design and it can be switched from righty to lefty in just a few seconds. Props to both.
Yeah, it's a quiet little critter, with good power and accuracy. The perfect urban pest assassin.
thanks guys!

Those are good numbers D. Thanks for posting.
-
thanks RR. you're welcome. are you still going in this direction? A little while ago I shot a 15.9 grain pellet into a tree near a hole. The Sun hit it just right so I could see it shining there. It took me four shots to hit that pellet and all dead-nutter close, but finally I whacked it. Range was 30 yards. Made me smile. I'd hit it with the P-rod while sitting in a chair with one leg crossed over the other, and my left hand resting on my knee, supporting the stock. I really like the balance.
darryl
-
Yeah, I'm still headed that way. Just wanted to get the standard config. buttoned up first. Got my LW factory length barrel today from Jim, so I'm not limited to 5.54 pellets any longer for accuracy.(I hope)
-
RR you know we're all waiting to read your results with the LW barrel. My stock barrel loved the 5.54mm H&N FTTs. I've now used the 5.53 H&Ns. The JSBs I used to put pellet on pellet at 30 yards was 5.52mm. Will you be pushing pellets through the LW barrel (checking the choke) before shooting them? Ought to be fun seeing it all come together.
darryl
-
Yes, I'll be doing the push test to check the resistance vs. The stock barrel and mrod barrel. I won't be getting to it until the weekend though. I need a better set of allen wrenches, t-handles. I gotta order my mrod barrel next, since I have the ext. already and maybe a chrony too. Holiday onset and wife's surgery keeps eating away time and money.
-
I ran a small test tonight indoors at 9.5 yards. I used three different pellets on one fill; the first pellet (H&N FTT) was also the last one, for four magazines. The picture explains. I'm good with it, and I see that even the Mrod barrel likes a pellet with a bigger head.
darryl
-
Their barrels are hit and miss too. Mine does fine with CPHP's from a tin @ 30yds. Lucky me, I guess.
-
hi RR,
I know well the furor caused by Crosman releasing so many "hit-or-miss" barrels on an unsuspecting public. So I think I'm lucky too. Jay and Gary did polish my barrel for me before I installed it. I can only think that helped. Jay even found a burr at the port hole, and no doubt it would have wreaked havoc on accuracy by deforming pellets.
Check this discussion out and look at Steve's pistol: http://www.network54.com/Forum/79537/thread/1320441561/How+long+%27should%27+a+P-rod+airtube+extension+be- (http://www.network54.com/Forum/79537/thread/1320441561/How+long+%27should%27+a+P-rod+airtube+extension+be-)
Awesome piece.
darryl
BTW when will we see your pistol with the new barrel?
-
hi Guys, I need your analytic powers to review this test I ran on the P-rod with that Marauder rifle barrel and the 0/093 TP. I hope it posts large enough to be read.
darryl
ooooohhh that's tiny
-
The discontinuity in your graph is confusing.... something weird happening there.... If I can read the pellet weight, its ~14.6 gr?.... That would be ~16 FPE @ 700 fps?.... Looks like the max is about 735 fps, so I personally wouldn't even record any shots under ~660 fps (10%).... or 700ish if I'm being fussy.... Looks like the gun goes over 700 about shot 14 and drops below it again about shot 39 (if we ignore the blip).... That would give you 25 "good" shots at ~ 17 FPE average.... which seems pretty good for the reservoir volume on a PRod.... Beyond that I can't give you much based on the information I can get from squinting at your chart....
Bob
-
you can't see that chart? ???
;D
-
btw, the drop in FPS was due to a pellet jam, and I had some minor issues clearing it: wound up with two pellets in the barrel, and shot them off. It happens. Other than that, I'm pleased with how this little project turned out. ;)
Oh! hammer spring and throw are both at max. Probably need to add the Disco spring just to have some adjustment capability.
