I've been a bullet caster for a number of years. There's a learning curve for sure, and some equipment that you cannot do without. But if one has a melting pot and several other basic pieces of equipment I wonder how casting .22 pellets would go? The hollow base design would be problematic and no doubt casting would be a tedious task, but are there any folks here who've tried rolling your own pellets?
I've never seen dies either for that matter. Maybe commercial pellets are pressure injected into large scale molds? I can't find any "how we make them" type videos online either. I do see a casting mold line on some pellets I've examined. So I'm guessing the molds are two piece affairs. Would really be interesting to see a manufacturer's equipment in action. Inquiring minds want to know...

Diabolo pellets are swaged, here is the JSB video for you to get an idea exactly how it works.

If you go back to the home page, scroll down to the forum, “ Projectiles,” & click on it. There you will see this ,” https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?board=229.0 (https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?board=229.0)

I cast NOE .22 cal hunter and hunter magnum plus.25 cal hunter. If you can cast a hollow point slug you can cast pellets.

Thank you all! This brings up a trouble I have with the search feature. I try to search, for example, "Tallbald" to find my posts made in several sections. It seems though to require a key word I've used in a thread title to bring anything up. Sometimes I cannot remember exactly just how I phrased a title.
I had tried searching "casting" but results showed nothing for me. Is there a technique I'm not using maybe? I'm not the brightest bulb in the tool chest. Nor the sharpest tool in the chandelier. Don

Gracious thank you all again. I wish I'd have been able to find that section myself. I feel....incompetent here at times. Now that I know it can and is being done, I'm ready to try. 100 or so pounds of both pure lead and wheel weights on hand could go far for me.
Thank you all again so very much for your help.

Heck we wrote the post and have a hard time finding what we wrote, after a few months. ;)

For me it seems I need to be in the right "Gate" to search for a specific thing. If I am in the U.S. Airgun Gate for example, I would not find any results searching for something unrelated, like a Gamo gun for example. Just my personal theory.

Thank you all for the education ! I told a friend who is a .25 caliber PCP lover about my learning here of casting for airguns. Invited him if he buys molds to visit my shop and we will see what we can do. Don

I love casting .25, 30 and 35 caliber pellets or slugs for my airguns, and reclaiming the lead from the trap(s) to do it all over again. 22 cal would be just as easy, but would go for a high count in mold cavities for those, but not required. Besides, the real trick is in the consistency of the casting to produce repeatable results.
Just some casting threads you could sort through:

I cast up a bunch more wad cutters this morning for my pistols mainly. I just put my long johns on and am going to head for the woods, I'll be shooting my Benjamin Cayden shooting my cast 23 grain "Magnum Hunters" 8)

I would love to get one of those molds but have never been able to order one, always out of stock....

David it don't seem like it was that long ago they still had some in stock too, when they do have them they sell them out fast every time, it seems like they'd stock up on more of them when they did do a run of them ???
Oh !!! by the way I didn't see a single squirrel while I was out there, the snow is still really deep yet, maybe another week of thawing will bring them out.

Frankly, they frustrate me so terribly much! I have been trying to purchase several molds from them since they went online years ago but none that I have been interested have ever been in stock.
I just gave up for years and now that I see all the molded pellets, the frustration begins again! :(
