Title: Red Dot Scopes for Sub 30 Yard Hunting ?
Post by: wll2506 on February 05, 2021, 04:32:20 PM
Any of you use a red dot scope on guns like Umarex 1022 or Crosman 1077 for short range pesting. I'm thinking of putting a Bushnell TRS-25 on a refurbished Crosman 1077 I'm getting. Will be using this gun for goofing around and pest Sparrows in the 15-25 yard range.

I like the fact that the red dot is very fast, no parallax and small and handy. I will sight the gun in about 1/2" high at 15 yards and be OK out to around 25ish or so. Velocity is around 575 to 600 ish with the pellets that will fit this gun.

I will be shoring up the barrel wobble and maybe a few other changes, but no sure till I get it.

What are your thoughts on this ?

I too am curious, I have my red dot on a Daisy 901 but have yet to shoot it any distance due to snow.

I think you’ll be GTG. But my only experience is taking a opossum at 10’ with a 1322, red dot on top.

I’ve gotten ground squirrels to around 25 yards with iron sights. Seems the trs-25 would be better than sloppy Chinese B25 rear sights.

I like the trs-25. Had one forward mounted on a D48 for a while.

Let us know how it goes.

I think a more accurate understanding is no optic has perfect glass. Therefore they all have some, although extremely slight, parallax issue.

Mount any red dot on any rifle. Put the rifle in a vice. Put a laser bore sight in the rifle or clamped to the barrel. Move your eye to all extremities of the optic FOV.

The dot will move in relation to the laser. Guarantee it. Some more, some less.

The cure is the same as it is for a scope. Adjust your comb so your line of sight is immediately and comfortably in line with the optic. The better you fit your rifle, the less the parallax issue.

The Feyachi RDS-22 Micro Red Dot Sight - 2 MOA I ordered last week is supposed to come in today. I'm going to mount in on my P-17. I have high hopes for it being a hosp and snake shooter for sub 30 yard hunting.

I bought a couple of interesting scopes a few years ago.  Got them from Amazon. They aren't available any longer. They are a 4x20 fixed power. They have an etched small center dot,  and a larger surrounding circle, both of which light up in red, and intensity is variable. Since the two cities are etched, they can be used without ant electrics. I find 4 power works for my needs. If these were 4x32 with AO, they would be perfect. I was able to focus the objective lens at 10 yards on one of them, but couldn't break the adjusted ring loose on the other.
Here is Amazon's page on them. Price was excellent too.
