Post by: stonagun on September 18, 2011, 08:33:16 PM

I am diy a condor myself and everything is done except the rifled barrel, got a .177"  seamless steel pipe only and I am not sure whether it can shoot a dove within 50 yards?

I don't understand what it is exactly ur asking about, .no to be rude could you rephrase the question ?

There is a ton of people here who can figure out anything, just have to be clear with what ur saying

I think ur saying you built ur own condor from peices of other condors but the barrel isn't rifled ? If its not rifled idk what the range would be, odds are the accuracy wouldn't good..

But condors are very very very good rifles and a condor would have no problem dropping doves out to 100yrds if you do you're part with shot placement and what not.. but you can buy a condor barrel that is rifled and ready to go..

I know nothing about that gun... Does it shoot BBs or Pellets...? I'm thinking that you need rifling to shoot pellets consistently at that distance...

I've heard that if you can get a little back spin on BBs they'll shoot more accurate..

Condors shoot pellets

I think he is missing the shroud that goes over the barrel.. if that's the case I wouldn't shoot it untill you get one

I also don't think that's a condor, I think its a talon.. both made by airforce

yep an airforce talon.

is the barrel rifled? do you have the tank, and can you fill it to 3,000psi? do you have a scope  or iron sights? what pellet do you plan to shoot?

If its not rifled no way you can get any groupings at all at 50 yards. The most important element in all fine pcps are its barrel.

Yes get a real talon barrel ( if they are like the condor, there are a handful of different lengths ), get the talon barrel shroud and SS end cap, if you don't have it already get a tank that will work for a talon..

Ur close to getting to shoot but the things you are missing are some of the key things needed...I bet the condors and talons use the same barrel, get you're post count up for the forum and then post in the classified section for a condor barrel. We have at least one member here with a .308 condor which means he doesn't use the stock condor barrels so he might be willing to part with it.. that is if the condor and talons use the same barrel.

As far filling the tank, let's just get the rifle complete and safe to shoot first then focus on the tanks and what not.. give it a few days some condor/talon owners should pop in with their 2cents

or...get the 24"condor barrel and be absolutely sure it will hit the target.

@mustangmike, you cant know the rifle is safe till its been tested under the conditions it will be used. for example if i have the tank but screwed up the installation of the barrel,or bolt, hammer, hammer spring, ect
i may never know until i attempt to fill to 3,000psi and then i will run into serious problems. if a problem is to occur i would rather it happen while im still working on a gun rather than when im done and hope it will work, to be certain of success is better than to have a possibility of a major mechanical failure.

maybe itd be better to test with co2 first because of the lower preasure, then step it up to hpa.

@mustangmike, Thank you for the advice.
Sure, my barrel isn't rifled, actually, it is only a steel pipe.  I have tank and the photo as as below:

and I can make it 30MPA by Inflator:

I am lack of 0.177"  rifled barrel, if some one have old airgun( or it can not work) maybe the rifled barrel  can be modified to condor's barrel.

Hi

I have shot smooth bores. If the ball is tight the gun can be fairly accurate but it will not compare to a good rifled barrel with the right pellet.
Since you have a tube give it a try. finding the right ball will be a problem tho.

Good luck.

Pyramydair.com sells airforce barrels
Scroll down untill you start seeing barrels.. you have 2 choices on length 12in or 24in and ur choice in caliber is from 177 to 25

By safe I ment get the correct barrel.. the airforce guns pop pellets out very hard and with out a rifled barrel you really have no idea where the pellet is going to go.. also if the shroud that goes over the barrel is not there and I could be wrong but the barrel could go flying off like a spear

Maybe once or twice, but not consistentlly unless you invest in a rifled barrel.  Spend the Buck.

I know how bad you want to shoot the gun, but it's not gonna be accurate until you get the righ barrel on it.  Now if you can test everything out before the barrel arrives, then i say go for it.

I would actually love to peice together a condor, really gives you a chance to learn about it..

I peiced together a super charger kit once but couldn't afford the custom tuning by mustang magic. One of the top mustang tuners/builders in the country

...im pretty sure with the airforce guns the barrel is attached to the aluminum frame with screws, so it wouldnt fly off. but i could be wrong.

one other question tho, do you have an appropriate backstop or a safe direction to shoot this powerful gun?

X2

I'm an airforce gun could go through my 6in thick box filled with a old padded dog bed and pack tightly with clothes behind the dog bed inside the box.. esp a high power 177, id assume a high power 177 could slice right through that.. id deff be a little nervous my first shot testing it

Man I want a condor
