Title: Resin for airgun parts
Post by: Loki_762 on January 24, 2021, 03:56:03 AM
I am new to 3D printing, and I have noticed that the resin used for the stuff I’ve made so far (mostly model parts) is pretty brittle. Are there any recommendations for a resin that would be good for parts like baffles or ldc adapters?
Thanks,
Chris

Siraya Blu Clear v2 is the best I have found when it comes to strength and affordability. It isn't the most attractive, it's ends up a yellowed matte clear color, but for internal parts it should be fine. Or can be painted. I have had some success tinting it using Tenax universal colorants but I have only tried adding enough color to tint, not to make it opaque. If you tint it you can't pour the remaining resin back in the container so I just have a liter that I have tinted to preference so that I can pour remaining tinted resin back into a container. You might want to also look into Siraya Tenacious. It cures slightly flexible if you use it by itself but you can add it to the Blu with good results. My mix is 90% Blu, 10% Tenacious then tinted with Tenax black for a smoky-clear result.

How does adding the tenacious and making the blu a bit more flexible help he prints? Getting started on resin and had planned to use Blu.

I have been messing with Siraya tech Blu and  Siraya tech Build.  Three parts Blu to one part Build. I have made  20+ magazines for the Taipan Mutant at the request of another GTA member. I have shipped a few batches for testing. We should know in a few days if this last iteration was a winner or not. Not owning a Taipan (yet), it takes time to mail them out and wait for feedback before making changes and trying again.
This member mailed me an extra magazine so I could make it up in CAD and I printed a few in PETG but was not satisfied. I immediatly purchased an Elegoo Mars 3 and the Blu resin. It has been an adventure ever since. This member then sent a generous amount of money to continue this project. The GTA is amazing in this way.
I will document the progress in a fresh thead later next week here in the 3D printing gate. Fingers crossed.
