I placed an order last Sunday online for a HW95 at Airguns of Arizona but they must be swamped bc it hasn't shipped yet, hopefully it'll ship next week. Here are my plans and any recommendations from experienced air gunners will be appreciated. Out of the box I'll sight it in @20yds and collect chrono data. Then I'll deburr and relube w/Napier Gun Grease and collect chrono & target data. I have a Vortek PG3 kit coming and miscellaneous Maccari parts (.150" thick synthetic piston spacer washers x 2, .200" thick stainless steal spring guide power spacers x 2, an aluminum piston weight slug, breech seals, and a Hornet piston seal). I went w/the Vortek kit bc I'm interested to see what difference the steel outer sleeve makes. Instead of installing the entire Vortek kit I'll use the Weirauch spring, Vortek guides (excluding steel outer sleeve), Maccari piston seal, washers, and spacers and then gather chrono & target data. Then I'll install the entire Vortek kit and gather chrono & target data. Then if I can I'll add Maccari spacers and washers to the Vortek kit and gather chrono & target data. I'm not sure where I'll throw in the Maccari aluminum piston weight slug. But like I said, any recommendations will be appreciated.

Fit whatever spring guides fit the snuggest on whatever spring you decide. ;)

It definitely requires a Top hat. My preference is for steel, but make sure you fit one.
This model does have quite a clearance between the outer diameter of the mainspring and inner piston wall, even when cocked. It needs arresting that end.
Its a better choice than the 50 though, with the straight cocking arm not causing a galling problem and is not over revved to make power, allowing more damping than you can afford with the smaller gun.

Thank you Clarky and Yogi for your input. But Clarky, the only top hat I'll have to use will be from the Vortek kit, I didn't see one for sale by itself on the airrifleheadquarters.com or Vortek website. I'm hoping the HW95 comes from the factory with a piston sleeve which would help with the clearance between the outside diameter of the mainspring and the inner piston wall, if not either PyramidAir or AirgunDepot has one for about $30 (I suppose I could try to make one). I'm guessing the steel outer sleeve that comes with the Vortek kit is basically a piston sleeve that's installed on the opposite end instead of inside the piston. Do you have any experience using an aluminum piston weight slug that evidently slides onto the piston shaft? I'm guessing it would slide onto the piston shaft first and then followed by piston washers and then top hat and spring. It should be fun experimenting with the different arrangements. Thank you for the advice.

I personally would not use alloy for slip washers, or Top hats. Not really a good coefficient of friction on steel, indeed its known to pick up. I can only imagine they have offered this to keep weight down but offer more strength than Delrin.
There seems to be a recent move away from Delrin Top hats (not guides) and i think i know why it is.
Trouble is, it upsets tuners who advocate the fitting but I have discovered a very real issue with a leading maker of such parts. if you want to PM i will tell you what it is...
