Well I finally got to sight in my Airmax 4-12x40AO on the HW50 .22 cal that was gifted to me by fwbsport a couple of weeks ago.
While I was waiting for the scope to arrive I was shooting with the open sights both rested and off hand. I was having so much fun that I was kinda reluctant to put the scope on.
Today I sighted in the scope.
And shot at 25 yrds. I was shooting Field Target Trophy 14.66gr 5.53 pellets today.
Some are 5-shot groups and others are 10 shot groups. Chilling 42° with NNW winds @ 5-7 mph.
I was shooting rested, sipping coffee and trying out different targets. I'm still trying to get use to this amazing trigger and my cold fingers released some before I was ready but I'm gonna post these pictures anyway.

Looks like a VERY nice shooting gift 🎁! Great groups too! I bet you will get groups like that at 40-50 yard distances once you get some more time with it and learn its likes and dislikes.
This isn’t exaggerating when I say this, I’ve hit 3/4”x 4” bolts standing up on end half the time at 82 yards sitting, leaning back against a tree with the 22 cal R9 rested on my knee. These HW guns will do it when the shooter can.
There used to be a guy on the old Yellow forum that would shoot his HW springers at distance (80ish yards) and get some impressive groups. I really enjoyed reading his long range springer group threads. It always gave me hope that I could achieve something similar. I think his handle was JDPolk? If any of you are familiar with him, let me know how he has been.
How do you like the Airmax scope? Mine is clear, the reticle is fine and the distances are right on with the AO bell markings. It’s a good fit for the R9 it sits on.

Thanks and yes I can definitely see that is possible. I look forward to learning the likes and dislikes. And as far as the scope is concerned, very fine reticle, that tracks precisely and the distances are spot on with the Bell markings.

No. I didn't finish zeroing. I needed to tweak it more but my fingers were cold. I only shot for about 15 minutes or so. The crosswinds were blowing too hard to get a good zero.

Very fine shooting , Dan. Especially for those conditions. It was just too cold to shoot today here, that’s what GTA is good for sometimes. To envy your shooting since it was 10* warmer than here, haha! Looking forward to your further reporting once you get better weather and more aquatinted with your HW/Hawke combo.

Hey Dan, nice shooting. Yesterday I put the same scope on a new HW95 Field Pro .22 that came from AoA on Wednesday. It was a rainy day so I could only shoot in the basement at 10 yards. Hopefully mine will do as well as yours at 25-30 yards when I get to stretch it out

Thanks John, that 42° felt like 32° to me. To be continued....
My shooting today was as much trying out different targets as much as doing a preliminary sight in.

Sounds like a fine setup as well, Scott! Best of luck to you when you get it outside.

Congraulations Scott on your new scope. This is my first Airmax, and the AMX reticle is awesome. I plan to extend my zero to 30 yards if I can or just leave it at 25 and fine tune it there. I have hope for tighter groups and feel confident they will happen.

Cold Weather Shooting:
Why don't you get a pair of cheap thin gloves and cut off the tips of the index finger and thumb?
I have found that whether I am wearing a tight fitting tee shirt or a bulky sweatshirt makes a difference to my groups.
5-7 mph wind is considered a calm day where I shoot. Direction does matter, though....

LOL, because one of the perks of being retired and living in South Mississippi is I can wait for a warmer day with no wind.

Lt Dan you impress me!

Excellent shooting, my friend. Got 7 Airmax scopes myself. 4 of my 5 German guns (R9 .20, R7 .20, HW95 .22 and D34k Premium .20) have one and love every one of 'em. Random lame thought but if you have some, try the Air Arms Falcon pellets. Brett gave me the tip long ago and it was a good one for my HW95. Shoots better groups with those than the FTT's although the FTT's are a very close second.

The Airmax scope was an eye opener to me. I understand why you wouldn't want to put anything less on one of your fine German airguns.
I don't have any of the Falcons, I need to try some.

I'll send you some, you can try before you buy :)

Thanks. I haven't had the opportunity to really experiment and compare different pellets. One day last week I was sitting in the back yard shooting the HW50 and I decided to try some Superdome. They did amazing well but not as good as the FTT. My JSB supply needs replenishing but it would be good to know how the Falcons shoot before ordering some.
What are you in need of? We can swap.

I may have been off the forum 6 months but didn't stop with getting a couple tins here and there to add to the pile that's been slowly building for the last 5 years. You'd likely spit your coffee if I told you how many...lol
No swap needed, I'll just pack some Falcons off to you :)

LOL, I probably would. Thanks a bunch Steve.
You know, I here if you need anything.

Got a chance today to get a little more familiar with this rifle.
Below are the groups today. I should have measured them but I just stuck a dime beside for comparison.
You will notice today I shot three different pellets. JSB Exact RS, H&N Field Target Trophy, & Hatsan Vortex Supreme. ALL produced dime-size or less groups. John was so correct about the accuracy of this rifle.

That is superb shooting Dan! It looks like it’ll take anything you put in the breach, as long as you do your part. ;)

Thanks, I shot six targets today and was just getting the groove today when my wife came out and reminded me that I had promised to go walking with her. Tomorrow I hope to slide right back in to that groove. LOL
