Title: Letter stamp on the breech of ol' blue ?

I just noticed this G on the breech of my '79 blue streak, been shooting it since I was a kid, had it down a few times over the past few years, and just now noticed this.

I have never heard of such a stamp on Sheridan rifles either.

Has anyone else ever noticed such a stamp ?

  I have seen that often & have some like that now. I do not know what it means .
