Look for the ones that calculate up slope and down slope, I have a Redfield that does that, paid about $170.  The golfer range finders are mostly horizontal, some do have up and down slope but they can get pricey because of the 'golfer' association.

That's so cool. I didn't know squat 'till you spoke up. Thank You. BIG DIFFERENCE.

My first search was funny:

"Best Rangefinder for Bow Hunting (Top 10 Picks Only)www.bowshunter.com › best-rangefinder-for-bow-hunt...
Sig Sauer Kilo 100 5x20mm Laser Range finder. Range. 1200 yards."

Wow, a bowhunter that shoots out to 1200 yards. HaHa. I'd like to see the pulleys on that bow.

After you do your research watch ebay. Lots of deals on there if you choose seller carefully. You can get something decent like one of the Bushnell's with a no questions asked lifetime warranty for under $100. In addition to slope I'd also look at one with a "scan" feature. To me this makes it easier for you to tell when the unit is locked on to game that is standing with a wooded background.

The ability to discern the target versus the background is a bit confusing, we'll see.

I am buying one today and soon.

20 minutes of shopping and 'shopper's fatigue' is already setting in. Information overload and BS

I have this one. I don't abuse it and it hasn't seen any rough duty, but it works well for me, and according to my testing is accurate.

They all work the same.
Have the same Chinese made electronics (even Leopold).
Get the most expensive one you can afford and never look at a catalog again.
I have a Leopold that allegedly measures to 800 yards.
I can’t shoot to 800 yards and why would I want too?

I have an older model of the halo you showed. I got it on clearance at Wally world for 50$. It does just fine. I've tested to known distances and it's always been within 6-10 inches of the mark. It ranges up to 800 yards but never tested that long of a range.

Congrats of your first!  This one has served me well for a couple of years now.  I think it can even measure the height of a tree, plus it does other stuff.  There were so many at the time of my search for my first one that I finally just picked one.  This one does work well and is fast.

"I finally just picked one". Me too, it's dice toss deal and it looks OK but I could see spending all day reading specs and reviews and my final choice ultimately being no better than my first choice.

I never thought about measuring the height of a tree and that measurement has eluded me for years. Always guessing.

I wonder if my choice can do that?

Even if yours does work in that way you won't use it pass the first day or two.  I played with mine checking out some building heights and such on the first couple of days and haven't used it for that since.  I only use the distance and angle features these days.

Yeah that might, after a couple times, lead to EOB (early onset of boredom).

Man am I ever tired of pacing distances!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So stoked to be changing that

I think that you could measure the distance from you to the top of a tree and then to the bottom without moving, and then subtract to find the height.

I mapped out my range at home and set my targets at known distances. The targets at my gun range are set at known distances too. I rarely use mine anymore unless I'm just playing with it. I could have just borrowed my buddy's Leupold, but I like toys and now I have my own.

I think I'll be using mine a lot at the Ground Squirrel hunt. At that hunt there's a loooooong woodpile, all logs waiting to be processed into slabs, and they pop up randomly at different distances.

Even target practice / pellet testing it'll be handy knowing the distances instead of wondering if my pace was correct, especially uphill and downhill.

I was looking at an ATN NV setup but truth is it won't increase the number of rats and my doorbell alert system with red led works quite well.

Johnny, here is an inexpensive one with slope up to 600yds. I have a Tasco Tee 2 Green from Amazon with no slope and is $90 but goes to over 1000yds which is really not needed. I'd opt for the other one! There are many many to choose from! Most of these probably come from the same factory....OOPS! Just read you ordered one! You’ll like it! Fun to play with 👍.

I bought one used (Nikon) on Ebay five or six years ago for $50 including shipping. Possibly the best hunting purchase I have ever made. It doesn't calculate elevation, etc but does well enough for me. You may look at the used market.

It will be fine.
If not Amazon will make it right.
Just yesterday a friend told me he can range to 2800 yards with is very expensive range finder.
Almost two miles.
Please?
Unless you are shooting straight up, or down from on top of a hill, you are not going to shoot two miles with any sporting type rifle accurately.
Check time of flight tables and remember gravity is a constant...

A range finder and my binoculars are pieces of kit I don’t hunt or pest without. Your hit/kill ratio will go up with a range finder, mine did.

Binoculars are super useful cuz spotting with the gun is tiresome. It's alledged the range finder will arrive this Sunday, we'll see.

I plan on setting ONE target out then walking away from it and ranging at 10 yard intervals then shooting prone with bi-pod to see POI and get my holdovers. It's soaking wet right now and my truck is sliding in the clay like it's oily ice so it'll be a messy work of love to get the numbers.

I sure appreciate all of the help in understanding the key features in a range finder. Just got tired of pacing and guessing. Shot opportunities are far and few between and I detest a miss!!!!!!!!!!

I have the Halo 460 bought it at about the same price, working great for years. Also got a bargain gate gold range finder, they were going for 35 dollars, does not incline, but ranges just as good as the Halo, watch the bargain gate if anyone is on the fence but wants a deal on one.

I am VERY inclined (pun intended) to believe what Ranchibi said above..." Most of these probably come from the same factory."

My confidence level is high with what I ordered but I also believe there probably even less expensive models that work just as well. It's a whole lotta 'we'll see'.

I am thinking about putting one in my cart as well. A lot of the cost in the others is from the name only. If I can get one for half or a third of the cost that performs good, I may just get a couple of em.

Yeah, I nearly fell for a Leupold only because they are close to my house but what's the point if I (HOPEFULLY) never need to return it? None.

I stayed under $100 and that met my goal for price. These devices should really only cost about $40 shipped.

That's just one of the reason I avoid AMZ like the plague.  They do like sending the cheaper versions of what's ordered.   At least that has been my experience.

I don't see the angular measurement capabilities you wanted on this model.

So you bought the Halo.  I have the same one.  Works really good for my needs.  Can be a little difficult to get sighted if anything obscures direct line of sight.  Always give me +/- a yard at 60 yards.  Ooops, had to modify as I see your ordered different after snafu on shipment..
