Title: My new love, 1984 HW77K
Post by: Ahab on September 15, 2011, 02:06:30 PM
Picked this up for $100. It came with two tins of Beeman Super Match pellets. One tin was opened and missing two pellets from the foam. Since the rifle looks like new, I can only assume it was fired two times. I was worried the seals would be dried out but when I tried shooting it off hand it sounds good and several shots grouped 4" at 30 yards. Wow! Have several scopes on hand and have ordered a one piece mount. Can't wait to see what it will do on the bench. ;D ;D ;D(http://)

you'll proably need to replace the breech seal in that gun their known for breech seal issues due to the pressure on the compression tube from the spring. Nice gun by the way I really like the 97's and 77K's I have 3 of them excellent gun's! :P

You did mean 4 INCHES?!? at 30 yards? That gun is capable of 1/2" at 30 yards, I had one in 1988 and it was a sweet shooter. Pyramyd Air should have breech seals, just email them and ask Boris to check on it for you.

Sweet gun at an awsome deal!  I thought I'd gotten a few good deals lately, but yours takes the cake.  I'm positive you'll get tons of enjoyment out of that nice rifle!

Yes, i'm sure it will do better than 1/2", but not by me off hand with open sights. I was just amazed that for a gun which wasn't fired in 25 years shot to point of aim. Thanks, I did order a new breech seal from PA but the old one seems to be holding up. I am getting a bit of diesel effect but my groups have shrunk to 2".

OH MY GOD! Tyrolean stock no less! Never, ever sell that gun! Not too many were made with that stock! My friend has a Paul Watts (supposedly) tuned '77 from that time period...has gold inlays on the breech block lettering! Shoots really good. You should do a lot better with a scope off the bench...try FTS pellets.

Just finished putting a Bushnell 4-12X40 AO Sportsman on it, will see how it holds up. Used a UTG one piece mount. i don't have a bench to shoot off so I rested the fore end on the top back of a flimsy chair facing away from me and I'm sitting on a similar chair. So with 7 tins of different pellets these two were the best.

Ahab,

this one - in the full length version - is my old love. It was my very first air gun bought in 1987.
It's a 177 and I had it tuned by Venom / V-Mach in 1993 and it is wonderfull, but a bit longish. I had expected more cocking force to be needed but this one does it with two fingers, returning 15 fpe for all the effort. So I regret not to have taken an extra 2 inches from barrel and cocking lever. Very fast action, almost no recoil. I just weighed it earlier today after fitting the blue laminated 97 K stock and it's now at 11 lbs with 3-9 x 40 scope in one-piece mount. At 45 1/4 inch it's a real hand full; just a long range varminter, as you would say....
Hang onto it, possibly after a tune,

Hendrick
