Title: Benjamin 310 can shoot pellets?
Post by: GaryG on December 15, 2020, 12:32:33 AM
I just got a copy of the original Benjamin Air Pistol and air rifle manual from the 1950's.  It says that the 310 and 130 shoot BB's and
darts and the 317 and 137 shoot pellets.  I have been shooting pellets through my 130 and 310 for over 55 years......have I been
doing it wrong all all these years?

Nope...they shoot pellets....and do it pretty well.

Do better with lead ball than steel BB's...but best accuracy with pellets, even though they aren't spun by rifling.

My 310 is more accurate with pellets.

They just mention BB's (steel) and Darts because they should be only used in smooth bore guns. Lead can be shot with either a rifled or smooth bore without damaging the barrel. Typically BB's are less accurate from a rifled barrel (and damage the rifling) and pellets from a smooth bore. There are some exceptions as far a s accuracy is concerned, and some people are a greater factor than the ammo or airgun they use too. I have some smooth bore guns that shoot pretty good with pellets too.

My 310 has cycled tens of thousands of BBs and only a few pellets.  When I was a kid (when that rifle was used most often) BBs were cheap as compared to pellets.  Easy decision.
But like mentioned above, no harm shooting pellets.
