Title: Chipper #18 or no tomatoes for you!
Post by: dk1677 on August 26, 2010, 06:15:25 PM
I found some chomped on tomatoes today and figured it was a chipper as the tree rats are busy with butternuts and apples, and sure enough this one showed up at about 30 yards . I loaded a Kodiak in the Disco ( as I thought it was about time to test it out ) and hit him just behind the left ear and it exited behind the right ear.       (http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb138/dk1677/100_2206.jpg)

I guess I will ask the foolish question here.
Are chipmunks even worth bothering with eating?
If so, are they any good?

Good shooting on such a tiny target.  As for eating them, I've never tried them but I remember reading once that east coast American Indians used to eat them and found them to be very good.  I might just have to try a couple some time, I would imagine it would take 4 or 5 to make a meal  :)

They make great possum bait, but the problem is that sometimes they grab them and run, before you can take a shot at them.  If the country rat visits regularly and is comfortable coming around, it will stay to consume the chipper, even in a well lit area, giving you time for a well place shot.  I think you need to take something bigger Dave, now that you have a Disco :)
