I just got what I think is a Crossman 105, .177 pumper. Its not in the greatest shape but I think its pretty cool. I was trying to investigate having it restored to its former glory but theres not a whole lot of info on them. I found this https://www.pyramydair.com/blog/2007/05/crosman-105106-multi-pump-pistols/ (https://www.pyramydair.com/blog/2007/05/crosman-105106-multi-pump-pistols/) but not much else.
As you can see by my crummy picture it needs work.
-
Wow- cool. ;D I've never seen one before. Are you going to restore it yourself, or have someone else do it? Might be a fun project. :)
-
Probably not. Its way beyond my abilities. Now finding someone to undertake it may be a bit a pita.
-
That's an interesting pistol... Try looking on the Crosman site where the pistol manuals are downloaded... They usually have descriptions on what years they were made... I think there is a museum also but I haven't looked there in a while...

I did find the manual over on the crosman pistol site. Now to figure out what it needs.

Nice one, Grumy. The good people on the Crosman forum should be able to put you into contact with a rebuilder. Here's the link -

I am really torn between repainting it or removing what little paint is on the brass. What do ya'll think.

Hmmm- that one would be a tough choice for me, because I like bare metal, but in the end, I usually tend to restore to as original a condition as I can with old things.
Otoh, restoration tends to take away from collector's value on the market, so leaving it as is might be the wise choice if you want to sell it in the future.

I'd remove all the paint, put straight inform scratches around the cylinder shaped parts with light sand paper, and blue the brass... Chipping paint irks me...

Thats the problem, this particular model has very little value. A third option could be to leave it as it sits and reseal it and make it a shooter.

You should restore it to original condition.

If you're not concerned about monetary value to collectors, then I'd be inclined to do whatever you want. :D
To me, old guns are similar to collecting other old things. I tend to collect stuff that I will use and keep, without market value in mind, but if I buy something purely because I know its value will increase, and I'm not particularly attached to it, I'll do minimal work to change anything at all. Most of the collectors I know tend to be heavily purist over being pragmatic.

My vote goes to clean it up and shoot it. (It does shoot or does it need a reseal?) You could strip and polish it but what you've got is honest use from years and years of pumping. Gives it kind of a worn, antique look. Polish it up and it will look like a parade rifle. Restoration would be only for your own satisfaction and won't add any real value. A collector wants it to be original.
-
I sidelined it for other projects but pulled it out to confirm it does not hold air. Is there anything I can do like try oiling the seals or do ya think its baked.
-
Polish the brass. The old ones look awesome when they're shiny.

Nothing like the look of gleaming brass, problem is keeping it looking that way.

Well I did want to do my damage then good so I sent this one out to Tim and Airgun smith. Really looking forward to shooting a piece of Crosman history.

That's a nice old gun and a fun shooter i just picked up a 106 and think it's a cool old gun i got high 300s over the chrony so yours will be higher with the lighter .177. I have a factory service manual for that if you want it.I can send it in an email.Let me no if you need any help i saw rebulid kits on ebay.

Really appreciate the offer Mike, but I ended sending this one off to Tim at Smith air gun repair. Otherwise it would have sat here for ever waiting for me to get to it. On the plus side, I should have it back in a couple of weeks. Cannot wait to shoot this piece of Crosman history.

When you pump it can you hear the air come out of the barrel or does it leak out slow.I found rebuild kits on ebay.
