I hope they sell out of this soon. I'm not sure how long I can stand it.

I was researching the Phantom last night. There were more cons than pros w/ it and some of the info was contradictory.

Midway and Crosman have the weight at 6.1 lbs. PA has the weight at 7.3 pounds.

(My .22 Summit Ranger weighs 8.5 pounds w/ it's scope, sling, pellet pen, LDC, etc and it kicks when I use 18 gr AA's. A 6.1 lb rifle would likely kick harder using the same pellet).

Everyone complained about the typical horrible Crosman trigger. This being yesterdays tech it doesn't have the new CBT trigger. So it will need a trigger job, (as do the CBT's for that matter).

It's a 1st gen NP; not an NP2.

It's loud. So it needs an LDC.

But yeah, it's only $55 bucks. It can be like getting a Crosman 1377 / 1322, buy it for cheap cheap and then spend some bucks customizing it and making it better.

A few reasons I caved for the cheap ($60 all in) Phantom Nitro 22 instead of the Benjamin Trail NP Elite:

I don't need another MAGNUM springer (~30 fpe) because I have all I need in my Hatsans (125, 135, and 130s). Another bargain ~20 fpe break-barrel however is OK.

I do like Crosman break-barrels (coil spring, NP1, and NP2) in general, have a couple that shoot very accurately, and I think this could be another tack-driver.

Has open sights which is mandatory for me when buying any new break-barrel air rifle.

Coil-Spring/NP1/NP2 makes no difference to me because I can usually get my coil-springers to shoot almost as smooth as the gas-springers with minimal effort.

It is usually poorly adjusted out of the box, but I do have a slight preference for the old Crosman trigger because I find it easier to adjust/modify to "my perfect trigger". The newer CBT is fine but it requires a little more effort for me to tweak.

If it's not a good shooter, it's still a good value parts rifle.

IMO BOTH air rifles are a bargain at these Midway sale prices.

AND Amazon is matching the $55 price?

As of this post Amazon still has a couple left but the price has more than doubled.

I reviewed the documents for this air rifle and found many common parts with the older Crosman Shockwave. IMO this is basically a Shockwave in a different stock and that's exactly what I wanted.

Back in 2017 I stumble across what I thought was a bargain deal on Daisy 22 pointed pellets and grabbed a few dozen tins. Probably the worst pellets I've ever purchased because they didn't shoot well in any springer I owned at the time. I ALMOST melted them down for the lead but gave them one more chance in a refurbished Crosman Shockwave I acquired later that year. The Shockwave was/is the only air rifle I have that absolutely "loves" those pellets. My Shockwave shoots other pellets well also, just not as good as the Daisy pellets.

I'm hoping the Phantom shoots like my Shockwave.

30 fpe? I wish. The Benji Trail .22 is a 20-22 fpe rifle.

My .22 Summit Ranger is in the same power range.

NP2 is good for another 1-2 fpe over the 1st Gen NP's; be nice if they were 30 fpe rifles. *Smiles*

You're right though, either one is a bargain. I too would lean towards the Phantom, as it would make a nice fixer upper, as I pointed out to Dan. I wish I could take advantage of this sale. As it is, I think I finally found a cure for the nagging case of tendonitis I've had since May.

Collagen & Silica. The collagen is going for $57.80 and the silica is going for $11.62.

Somebody else here at GTA was complaining of tendonitis too. It wasn't you, was it? I can't remember offhand. I'm still slurping coffee this morning. Here's the links I used. You might want to pass them on to the feller that does have tendonitis, if you know him

I don't have one of the BTNP Elites so I was going by Crosmans rating of 26 fpe.

https://www.crosman.com/benjamin-trail-nitro-piston-elite-hardwood-22 (https://www.crosman.com/benjamin-trail-nitro-piston-elite-hardwood-22)

Assuming 26 fpe is real, that puts it very close to my Hatsan Mod125 coil-spring which currently shoots as smooth as its air-spring sibling.

Some past tendon/joint injuries (at a much younger age) took many months to properly heal so I know how it feels to have some restricted movement.

Current job at a local brewery requires standing/walking for 8 hour shifts with lots of heavy lifting (stacking half kegs ~160 lbs and grain sacks ~55 lbs). That exercise has positive benefits. I'm not having any difficulties cocking and shooting even the largest magnum springers in my collection. I KNOW at my age it won't be long before certain parts wear-out or break and the physically easy tasks I take for granted now become very difficult. I plan to enjoy shooting all my springers until I can't, then I'll reluctantly put them up on the GTA classifieds.

I wouldn't put much faith in Crosman's claim of 26 fpe. If you watched the vid, the late Kinney Kormandy didn't put much faith in manufacturers claims either.

Yeah, sounds like your job keeps you fit. Good for you. I use a Bullworker isometric device to keep me in shape.   That's how I messed up the tendon in my left elbow last May. It was my 100% my fault.

W/ the Bullworker, one is supposed to use 60-80% of their strength for each exercise, I was using in excess of 90% that day. I was really digging the particular exercise I was doing. It was giving a really good burn to my muscles. The bicep in my left arm was practically popping out of my arm. Felt good.

Probably, ... maybe, ... had I already been using the collagen and the silica back in May, the injury wouldn't have happened. My tendons & ligaments would have been in better shape than what they were.

Usage of my Bullworker enables me to have nearly effortless use of my Summit Ranger, Optimus, 392, etc. much the same as your beer keg / grain sack work does.

Anyway, a 3.5 month supply of the collagen & silica costs around $80 + tax. Call it $25 a month. I'm hoping what I ordered will heal me. After that, I'll order more of both and then use maintenance doses of it, because I'll definitely start using my Bullworker again.

Quick & short review of the Crosman Phantom NP 22 here...

https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=129628.msg156053444#msg156053444 (https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=129628.msg156053444#msg156053444)

IMO out of the box performance is quite good for a $60 break-barrel, but rifle needs a little work.

I will rework the trigger and de-cant the front sight, then shoot a few hundred pellets over chronograph and into targets to be certain.

So far it is exactly what I expected.
