I can vouch for the fact that these guys are everywhere up there and not used to having an airgun pointed at them. They just sit there and bark at you. They also try to chew through anything you leave unattended like coolers, backpack straps or anything that may have your salty sweat on it. Very destructive camp raiders: Red Targets (http://www.adirondackalmanack.com/2010/08/red-squirrels-feisty-adirondack-rodents.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+AdirondackAlmanack+%28Adirondack+Almanack%29)

I have them in good numbers in the woods at my summer place up in Delaware County. I've never shot them but next trip up I may point an air rifle at a few :)
Just curious, I'm assuming they are edible (most critters are) , have you ever tried them? I'm wondering if they are worth trying.

Have not tried to eat any yet - my last trip up I didn't have time and there were too many people around to be killing innocent varmints and cooking them. I only shot the ones that chewed up my stuff. I lost a cooler bag and got the top of a hard cooler chewed near through. They would show up while I was just sitting in camp watching. But I solved that problem as discretely as I could. The Mrod is very quiet and a good tool for the job. This Fall I intend to spend some solo time up there and I'm bringing my cast iron skillet. :)
