Title: Pishtov Arms RAS-01 Unboxing
Post by: Rat Sniper (AKA: PaulT58) on October 31, 2020, 10:31:48 AM
I received the RAS-01 last night, right before I had to leave in a trip.  Unfortunately, I won't be able to do any testing until I return next Friday.  But, I did take some unboxing pictures before I left.

The stock is a beautiful Turkish Walnut.  The gun feels good shouldered well, and its not too heavy. I didn't take a picture of it, but the gauge at the end of the air cylinder is marked FX.  The fill probe also looks to be very similar to the FX and/or Hatsan fill probes, so that's a plus for anyone with one of those air rifles.  I quickly tried to remove the end cap from the shroud, but it wouldn't budge, so the jury's still out on that.  Looking down the shroud, I could see the crown at the end of the barrel, so it don't appear to have any baffling at all.  As is, I suspect it's going to be quite loud!

The RAS-01, 02 and 03 come with a case, which is good because it's just tossed into a single cardboard box.  Pictures I've seen of the rest of their line-up is just a rifle in a plastic bag tossed into that same box!  Not a great idea given they've chosen UPS as their carrier!  My box did sustain some damage from rough handling, but the rifle was safely nestled in a hard case, so it arrived without any scuffs or bruises!  It did come well oiled, so I suspect it will need a good cleaning before shooting it.  There were 2 magazine and a fill probe included, but no manual.  Pishtov did send a message saying the manual will be uploaded to their website tomorrow, so once that's posted I'll post a link to it here for anyone interested.

Here are some pictures for now, I'll do some testing and will compare it side by side with my Benjamin Cayden when I return.

what is that al over the front of the barrel and shroud ?? im assuming oil lube ?l just reread , it just stood out as odd the concetration in the one spot.. Looks good.. The case thing was huge , as the guns shipped without it seem to be getting returned asap

Rob, yes, that was oil, the bag with the fill probe and spare magazine were full of oil as well.  I guess they didn't want any rust or corrosion on the trip here from Turkey!  It's a shame they don't all come in hard cases.  If enough end up being returned, I'm sure they will rethink their current shipping strategy.

I did ask about the shroud and whether or not the end cap was threaded.  At first they said yes, then said not the current model, but they will be coming out with one that does have a threaded end cap and will also be offering an LDC on their website.  They did say I could get one of the new barrel that will accept a LDC once they are available, but did not say if they would accept the old barrel in trade, or what the new one would cost.  I will definitely be exploring the possibilities when I get back home.  I can't imagine that end cap is permanently attached, hopefully it can be removed and replaced with an adapter that will accept a ½"-20 UNF LDC.

Pishtov?! Kinda like a play on words for an “angry airgun”! I wonder if that was intentional....

They look pretty nice. I am a fan of Turkish walnut guns.

The case looked like it will still be useful after mounting a scope.   Some factory cases are not.

Have a safe trip Paul and I'm looking forward to your review on this rifle once you get back home. Hopefully they get the bugs worked out, these guns look pretty cool and definitely have a ton of appeal with a decent price point.

Beautiful gun Paul, I really like the lines. And the grain of the wood is elegant!

I'm late to the party on these guns... Paul, can you tell if it is a clone of another make?

I’ve not had a chance to even clean the barrel yet!  It arrived right before I had to for an out of town trip. I’ll be back on Friday and hopefully will be able to do some testing next weekend.

Paul nice gun ... looking good  ... at least they put your gun in a case , so it didn't get smashed up like the other guys did , cant wait to see how they shoot , I had to send back both Avengers .22 and  .25 due to leaking when trying to fill , and hammer spring adjuster problems , the barrels were insane accurate they just need to get the issues I mentioned corrected  ...

From what I've been seeing posted about these guns, the ones that will next be available with be from a regular vendor with an extra healthy price tag on them . . . . I'll pass on these for now because from what I was seeing the possible prices being around $700 they wouldn't be worth it ???  Won't really know if and until a reputable dealer starts selling them.

They sure are making very visually appealing guns.

I agree with Manny. Visually stunning! Can't wait till you get back and put it through it's paces!
