Title: Tuning Regulator By Huma-Air for the Armada/Marauder ?
Post by: Scrambler82 on October 29, 2020, 11:22:08 PM
I have read some on the Tuning Regulators, how they will even out your power usage and may give you more shots.

Plain and simple, I don't even know for sure what they are little lone how to use them.
Are they worth the effort for novice like myself ?
Is the Benjamin Marauder By Huma-Air worth the price.
Then there is a Quick Connect with gauge to replace the filler connector.

I read too much, especially now, and get these delusions that I might shoot even better.

So I decided to ask the Site, "What's the story on Air Regulators in the Air supply of a air rifle" ?

Thanks for any assist.

Pending caliber and power expectations .... regulation with some specific modifications can do wonders for consistency and shot count.
Just dropping in a regulator and changing nothing else in tune or set up seldom is satisfactory.

That is why my .22 & .25 are not HUMA regulated..

Honestly, whether they are "worth the effort or not" is function of deciding what you want to do with your airgun and with this hobby in general . . . so with that in mind, here are two situations to consider:

A)  If you are content with your airgun as the tool that it is, and are fine with taking the number of shots that it offers you now, and then refilling and repeating, then it is probably not worth the effort, at least for that specific gun.

B) If you want to expand your knowledge in this space, and are willing to spend time and effort to learn - often by doing and making mistakes - then it probably is worth the effort.

If in "A" you are happy, and in "B" you are content not going deeper down the rabbit hole, then you are good and you can stop.  But I expect that is not the case or you would not be posting on these forums.   ;)

If in "A" you are not happy, and in"B" you are content not going deeper down the rabbit hole, then I simply suggest selling your current gun and find something that would work better for you, and it could be a regulated gun.

But if you want to learn, then dive on in . . . . I put my first regulator in my Marauder in ~2012 or so.  It was my only PCP, and it took a while to get it right.  Now all my Marauders (three of them) are regulated, and the only non-regulated PCP I have is my Daystate Air Ranger (with a big old bottle on it anyways).  It has been a fun adventure, and a hobby within a hobby.  My Marauders (all Gen I guns) are basically one giant adult Mr. Potatohead kit for me, and I often take them apart and swap things in and out of them, and I enjoy tinkering with them almost more than I do shooting them - well, at least once I know how they shoot (nothing beats testing them out after changes are made).  I just can't seem to leave them alone.

So in the end I would say this - you can almost certainly make your gun "better" with a regulator and some effort/other changes, but only you can determine if that is a worthwhile endeavor for you.

I was reading about using a regulator to make more consistent shots and maybe more of them.

I am too new to PCP to do anything myself until I get a lot more experience.

Thanks for the opinions, I will take the route to let things be for now.

I shot my Armada for two years stock from the factory. Now all mine are regulated and fully modded.

Honestly, in todays setting, I would recommend the HillAirgun offerings and matched kits if considering this route.  Maybe give Tim a call and discuss it.  There's more concern and maintenance required when going regulated.  Non-regulated, the gun will be one of the most reliable guns available.  Regulation makes the gun a great bench gun.  Non-regulated makes for best hunters.  Those are often overlooked points.  I have both regulated and non-regulated Marauders/guns for different purposes.
