Title: Umarex Origin 👍👍👍
Post by: rabbitguy on October 26, 2020, 12:24:31 AM
Well, it’s a nice rifle.
Shooting 18.13 at 860 average and accuracy is like advertised.
FYI
I ran a few JSB KnockOut slugs through it with the hammer spring turn all the way in and it was able to push those rounds at 815 fps. That’s a 24.39 grain slug. Not bad.
I have no idea yet if it is accurate with them, I was just curious and had to see what it could do with them over the chrony

I also turned the hammer spring all the way out and it shot the 18.13s at an average of 804 fps for anyone who might want to know.

Congratulations on a really very nice gun!

I bought one too, but the hand pump it came with was defective and they could not exchange as Origins were sold out at the time, so sadly i returned it intending to wait for their next shipment, but meantime caved in and bought a compressor and then an Avenger (waiting weakens me, ha ha) and I could not justify having two very similar guns (so many airguns, so little time...) so I never looked into getting another Origin. ;D

Again congrats on an awesome gun, glad it be making way more than ample power for most shooting purposes.

Thanks.

The pump is still in the box I haven’t even opened it up. I used my Hill pump and one of my cheap Chinese pumps to fill it. Both did the job.
I also have a compressor and that makes shooting a lot easier for sure. Mostly use it when I’m out shooting the bull boss and buccaneer.

No need for it with the Origin. Nope not at all.

The avenger is still on my list.
I couldn’t pass up on this one as I was able to get it for 249 out the door, Used a friends discount.

Congrats Rabbit,

I haven't entered the PCP market fully. Since you have a hill pump and a Chinese pump would you answer a few questions. Does the Hill pump push more air (fill the rifle faster)?  2 stage, 3 stage, and now 4 stage?  Are the differences the amount of effort and the amount of air filled? I will do some more searching for information on hand pump here. I wish some one would do a compare and contrast video on PCP hand pumps!   Thanks for your time.

I had 8 HILL pumps, if it does push air any faster then the current china offerings I've never noticed, ....and I've been pumping for over a dozen years.

btw,......congrats on the new gun, always nice to see people stoked about a new rifle.

Congratulations on the new Gun!

When we visited my son, we went shooting.  No compressor.  His Sumatra .25 and Hill MK4 pump, my Avenger .25 and Vevor hand pump.  I had gotten the Vevor, (Chinese), pump in a package deal not working.  That was my 1st PCP.  I went through the Vevor, replacing and reworking obvious problems before using it.
My son’s Hill took 200+ strokes to recharge the Sumatra, where as my Vevor only required about 100 strokes.  I gave him my pump when we left.  I would suspect that if I were to go through / rework the Hill MK4, it would improve on a par to match the Vevor.  Manufacturing processes leave a lot to be desired.  I have a fair amount of experience building, reworking, and servicing Hydraulic and Pneumatic devices as I worked for N.A.R.F. in Pensacola.

The Origin looks to be a nice gun, now that you have had it for a month, any news to share?

I watched some videos on the gun and I did not realize that this one also has the composite breech.  This seems to be the new normal and one of the ways they are keeping the production costs down.  It seems to work and I have not heard very much about it being an issue or concern.  I'm curious about what happens when you tighten the scope rings.  Do you see any perceptible indentations in the composite breech?

Thanks,

Sorry for not responding sooner, work has me busy.

Can’t say I have come across any big issues.
There was a pellet jam once but that was really my fault.

I have taken this rifle apart, did not touch the ever pressure system. The scope rail is aluminum, it’s not a composite breach just a cover. I would not use the dovetails they can break , very thin in that area stick with the picatinny and your set.
The stock is nice and I wish the Aspen’s would have been made with that same material. Thin but still a great feel and fit.

Currently It’s pushing The JSB KnockOut at over 910 FPS. Getting 46-48 fpe out of it right now but as you know the shot count went way down.

Getting around 6 good shots at that level. More tuning is needed for sure.

I still have not had a single good day to check accuracy at anything passed 35 yards.

But it is powerful even at stock levels it’s doing well.
