Is the recoil enough that the rear sight must engage the slots on the top of the dovetail, or a "scope stop" be used to avoid scope migration?

I mounted my first scope on my Mini with the steel Millet rings. I wouldn't recommend them, but the scope never moved. Currently have the one piece Sportsmatch with droop compensation. The lower version mount with a Weaver 4X Rimfire scope, non AO. It hasn't moved. The BKL or Sportsmatch rings should be plenty. The recoil is a smooth motion and a pretty soft stop. If the mount is moving, is it very slow and not noticeable and not affecting my groups. The Sportsmatch rings with the FWB recoil pin are nice if it makes you feel better. I have bought several pair from Tawnado's store online, shipped via Royal air mail. Depending on the exchange rate, it is wise to shop around.
I think with the factory rear sight you may not have a choice of whether to use the slots or not, as they may not tighten down properly unless positioned on one. It has been a while since I used mine.

I've had a 300S for about 20 years. As far as I can tell the scope has never moved. Since the 300 is around 5fpe there shouldn't be any significant recoil impacting the scope.
On the other hand, it doesn't hurt to wear belts and suspenders!!! So using the notches isn't a bad idea.
By the way, mounting a scope on the 300 series that doesn't block the loading port requires a scope of about 12" or less. I use a Clearridge that is 11-7/8" with no issue.

The factory Peep requires those slots for the cross bolt...that is all.
A 4x32 scope with cheap 11mm dovetail rings holds just fine on mine.

I use to use a Leepers 1 piece offset mount with a UTG Bug Buster 3x9x32mm on my 300s and never had a problem! ;)

As others have stated, "No". I have a 6.5-20X scope on my 300S with long eye relief and I use a medium height, one piece Sportsmatch OP12C cantilever mount. No recoil arresting pin, 3 screws in truncated clamping surface and two screws per ring instead of 4. No movement whatsoever. Note: my scope has only a 42mm AO. Before buying confirm the dimensions of this mount will work with larger objective scopes.
